A flicker of sanity in the UK

The judge said: “I make it plain that, in my judgment, being shot is not mitigation. If you burgle a house in the country where the householder owns a legally held shotgun, that is the chance you take. You cannot come to court and ask for a lighter sentence because of it.”

via Burglars should accept risk of being shot, says judge | UK news | The Guardian.

Earlier this month, two burglars broke into the cottage of Andy Ferrie and his wife. Mr. Ferrie used a shotgun to defend himself, called the police and in true British fashion, the cops arrested the Ferries. Thankfully enough hell was raised and the couple was released with no charges pending.

Maybe there is hope after all.

  1. Remember: the anti-gun crowd isn’t opposed to guns. They’re opposed to all forms of self-defense. Guns just happen to be the most effective form.

How dare the Fosters threaten that poor, defenseless sack of filth with a shotgun!

  2. Color me amazed! I thought the UK “Progressives” had successfully stamped out all self defense in that nation.

I guess they haven’t won yet!

As soon as the right to self-defense is lost, the right to keep and bear arms is long gone!

  3. I’m shocked that the UK is finally accepting reality. A small step in the right direction.

Self-defense and the RKBA are inextricably linked. No compromise on either. For that matter, we need to resist legislation regarding knives, TASERs and pepper spray. The tool ultimately does not matter; the ability to defend oneself is paramount.

  4. Let this be a lesson. If you live in the city…and you shoot the bastards..you have to call the cops. If you live out in a rural/ pastureland, farmland/ woods etc…don’t call the cops…just grab the shovel and bury the bastards.

  5. While this is, indeed, a wonderful precedent and ruling for a country that has been damned-near lost to criminal-enablers, the cynical part of me has to wonder how much longer that judge will be in office…
