Man with Assault Umbrella in Cal State. SWAT Saves the Day.

A SWAT team on the campus of California State University San Marcos surrounded a staff member equipped with protective rain gear this week.

Here is the pic of the dangerous takedown:

“It was long umbrella with a strap I guess it went over the shoulder, so you can see where the confusion came from.”

Those were the words of the “reporter on the scene” and he is either making shit up as he went or there are some seriously stupid and ignorant people at California State (San Marcos.)

So basically if it has a strap and goes over the shoulder, you can expect to have Law Enforcement called on your ass. Some items with straps that go over the shoulder and may get you shot are : Brassieres, Messenger Bags, Baby Carriers and Accordions (OK, you could make the case for accordions.)

One more thing: I know SWAT was called in and they have all those wonderful toys but, can anybody explain to me why in God’s graces do they need to be muzzle sweeping every frigging student & faculty in the frigging campus?

  1. What amazes me are the brave operators on the right pointing their patrol rifles at all the collegiate threats, and ready to terminate them when they came to the aid of the dastardly umbrella-man.

Those operators instinctively know best time for his fellow umbrellists to trip the ambush is when they are distracted by the arrest of the dangerous parasol equipped villain. It is phenomenal that they escaped the high threat environment without losses!

  2. You point a rifle at me when I’m carrying an umbrella, we’re going to have problems.

Continue to do so and we’re going to meet in the federal courthouse for a 1983 suit.

  3. I’m intrigued by what tacticool advantage the officer in the red sleeves gains by virtue of his attire. If I’m wearing red jammies during an oh-dark-hundred home invasion, will the red offset the disastrous tactical error of having a light on my pistol?

  4. Assuming the shoulder strap goes “up” at some point, does that make it a barrel shroud (as defined by the Congresscritter from NY’s 4th district)?

  5. That man was clearly committing a microaggression by carrying that umbrella. It made me think of Danny Devito’s Peguin in ‘Batman Returns,’ which reminded me of ‘Batman & Robin,’ which made me think of…

    TRIGGER WARNING!

    …nipples on the Batsuit.

    Throw the book at him.

    1. I have learned a new word today, microaggression and I have to over ride spell check to make the word, cool. I really question the brain activity of these guys with the gun pointing when the person in question has his hands in the air. I also worry that these nobs might have real bullets and trip as they move around with their pointy guns.

  6. I’d be willing to bet that in a few weeks of work, a competent dog trainer could train a dog to recognize an umbrella, and that the dog would never see an umbrella and think it’s a gun.

Which shows the dog has a big IQ advantage over whoever called the SWAT team and the team themselves.

Heck, I bet I could train my cat to do that and she’s… not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you get my drift.

  7. First, what the heck are those other “officers” pointing their rifles at? Second, I just can’t get over the shorts. Not exactly projecting an image of competency and professionalism there.

    1. I am not gonna give him crap for that. I think he was just a cop on his way home or maybe even off duty who heard the Man with Gun On Campus and decided that getting there was more important than looking tacticool.

      1. Good point. I wish more people would see how beneficial it would be to simply allow skilled and willing faculty and students to carry in order to allow for an immediate response to an actual threat.
