  1. What chiefjaybob said. They still haven’t acknowledged that ALL 5.56/.223 ammunition can penetrate “normal” bullet proof vests.

Also, does M855 fired out of an AR-pistol barrel even have the velocity to penetrate a vest? Out of a 16- or 20-inch, yes, but half that? It seems to me that, given the heavier projectile and different powders (different burn rates) used, a 9mm FMJ round out of a “tactical” handgun (5-6 inch barrel) or cheap carbine would hit harder, but I could be wrong.

    1. Archer – BINGO – virtually any rifle caliber round can penetrate soft body armor (which is NOT ‘bullet proof’ but rather bullet resistant). The problem for the atf is that they are arbitrarily and capriciously redefining the M855 round as being ‘armor piercing’ when the military has ALWAYS referred to it as standard ‘ball’ ammo. They are ignoring basic physics and ballistics – rifle rounds fired in a ‘pistol’ with its shorter barrel will NOT perform as well. This whole thing is a ploy to further yet just another form of people, I mean ‘gun control’.
