Self Correcting Gun Safety Issue.

MIMS, FLA. — Police say a man who was checking to see if a bullet was still in the chamber of a pistol has died after he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting himself.Authorities say 49-year-old Charles Cooper shot himself at 1:50 a.m. Sunday during a weekend fishing trip and a cookout in Mims.Police say Cooper had been drinking beer. At one point during the gathering, he retrieved a handgun.Cooper’s friends told investigators that after he removed the magazine from the gun, he asked if there was still a round in the chamber.Cooper then raised the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, discharging a round.He was pronounced dead at the scene.

  1. When I read stuff like that I always wonder whether there’s more to the story. Even if you’re not formally aware of the 4 rules, it strikes me as particularly stupid to do that stuff.

    Contradiction in terms. If he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, then shooting himself was not an accident. Stupidity, for sure, but not accidental.

  4. This is going to sound callous, but if you decide to “test” whether a gun is loaded by shooting yourself in the head with it, you deserve whatever you get. There are some people whose only function is to serve as an example to others why you shouldn’t do stupid stuff. This guy was one such person.
