What’s with cats and boxes?

missy small box

She is not a small cat. You’d figure she would be comfier in the bigger one, but no. Apparently all cats tend to do the same and nobody knows for certain why.

I quote from that great philosopher and religious leader G’Kar of Narn.

“I suspect it’s one of those great universal mysteries which will either never be explained, or which would drive you mad if you ever learned the truth.”

He was talking about Swedish meatballs, but the same principle applies.

  1. Miguel, it’s very easy. It’s a comfort thing. When you were a kid, didn’t you squeeze yourself into dark closets or other small spaces? Cats are the same way.

  2. I’ve seen videos or pictures of the Big Cats, tigers for sure, leopards, and I think I recall a lioness, given a box to play with. They all ended up squeezed into a box.

  3. I’ve noticed that many conservative/pro-gun people don’t like cats all that much, but think about it, cats are independent, they don’t need 24/7 affection, they take care of themselves, and only come to visit every so often.
