EPA moonwalks on the lead ban.

EPA announced that it would not acquiesce to a petition from the Center for Biological Diversity, the American Bird Conservancy and assorted tree huggers to ban lead under the Toxic Substances Control Act (which expressly exempts ammunition. The EPA cannot create legislation out of the thin blue sky realted to this, but they tried anyway) . It appears that once the news of the petition jumped from the Blogosphere to the Drudge Report, EPA decided that it would serve its interest better to pretend they did not jump into that bandwagon, even though they were asking for comments which is part of their “allow me to pretend I care about your opinion but I’ll do what I want” process. According to the USA Today article, the evil force behind the EPA backtracking is the NRA who challenged EPA to dismiss the petition under Second Amendment issues.

In Other News: The GOA says it was them who did all the grunt work on the EPA issue while vacationing from Martha’s Vineyard where they recued a bunch of kitties lost at sea. GOA is also requesting more donations because things are expensive up there and they ran fresh out of Great Poupon.

Have we forgotten the past? We forgot to tell it.

First I want to than Jay and his comments. It made me realize part of the problem we are having with all this Anti-NRA campaigns.

I think the issues is a lot of people have joined the Second Amendment cause and are unaware or do not know what was happening just 30 years ago.  Those of us who were alive and/or paying attention have failed to see that the new generation knows little about the near past or the atmosphere we were living in. It is our failure, we have not portrayed efficiently what happened and now the NRA has this image of always being all powerful, all knowing, all fixing. We know that was not the case and must remedy it.

Today three quarters of Americans firmly believe that the Second Amendment is an Individual Right just like the First or the Fifth or any other. Thirty years ago the numbers were reversed and the Second Amendment was seen only as something that had to do with them hunters-Bambi-Killers. The Gun Control act of 1968 was deeply entrenched and the idea of a Citizen being able to carry a pistol for personal protection was akin to having little green men from Mars land in your backyard. Actually there was a better chance of Martians landing than people accepting CCW.

Then crime, that had been on the rise steadily, shot up to the stratosphere with the Drug Wars.  Cocaine Cowboys were not an episode of Miami Vice but real individuals machine gunning competitors in the streets of Miami and dealers shooting customers in the great cities of this country. Add to this the assassination of John Lennon, the attempt on Reagan (that produced poster Boy Brady), mass shootings in California and some other incidents, a call came to restrict even more the access to guns. This was not just a simple media call like we are used to it, this was a ferocious crusade from every field of society but gun owners.

The NRA then was forced to switch from a “Field & Stream” type organization which was only worried about hunters losing their rights to hunt to an all out Second Amendment group. It was not a nice transition and it left many people disenchanted or downright pissed off and many quit or were set aside. Some of those are still out there in other groups which you can imagine. This also brought the attention of the Anti Gunners and the Media who promptly made the NRA their favorite punching bag. Every crazy bastard with a gun was an NRA member unless otherwise proven the opposite (but don’t hold your breath waiting for a correction from the press), every NRA member was a possible killer. Legislative influence in Congress? Are you fucking kidding me? What was that?

Being an NRA member was to be a combination nutjob-leper. For many police departments having an NRA sticker in your windshield was probable cause to do a felony stop on your ass. You never commented at work that you were a shooting aficionado and an NRA member because you might get fired (always other causes were mentioned) or you could expect never to get a raise or to advance in the corporate ladder. People went to the extremes of removing anything gun related from their lives in fear that their friends and neighbors would freak out and their children be ostracized. The NRA member was a sick individual that was better off in a prison camp even though we were the most law abiding citizens out there. You were associated with every neo nazi group there was, spit on, screamed on. Wearing an NRA cap meant to people you had your bedsheets and a cross to be burned in the back of your pick up truck. This is a no-shitter people, I am a Hispanic that speaks with an accent and never hid his origins but I was accused of belonging to racist groups that would target me in a millisecond. How is that for stupidity and hysteria?

In my opinion, the turning point came the days after April 19, 1995: The Oklahoma City Bombing. Once it was known that Timothy McVeigh had planted and detonated the explosives, the media went nuts and accused the NRA of being somewhat involved with the event. And then there was this picture:

Many anti conservative cartoons were based on this famous picture but the one that struck home for most of us NRA members was one that said “Thank You NRA.” By stroke of the pen of somebody wanting to cash political points in the midst of such a tragic incident, were officially associated with the nastiest motherfucker of that era (Do you remember after 9-11 some congresscritter trying to associate gun owners with Islamic terrorists? Same deal but it almost worked then). We were mad, but now we went ballistic. The floodgates opened specially after it was found out that firefighter Chris Fields was an NRA member and he was not very fond the image of the kid and of his image being used for cheap political fodder. The Internet that was barely making inroads in the Media was flooded with our kind denouncing such crass tactics. Phones messages and faxes flooded every  radio & TV station, every congressman’s office, every body and any body that was in position of some power.

But the Powers That Be at the time did not relent and neither did we. They were expecting us to keep being polite and we weren’t.  From the famous “Jackbooted Thugs” comment to the Wayne LaPierre statement: “I’ve come to believe he needs a certain level of violence in this country He’s willing to accept a certain level of killing to further his agenda” it was clear that the gloves were off and the tide had turned. But this was already 1,999 and by 2,000 is when the NRA had developed political power enough to influence presidential elections and put the fear of God in Congress. NRA members were not afraid to sow their colors as we were once, people were carrying weapons for self defense and some “crazy” individuals were talking about Open Carry and even not needing to have a permit to carry a gun!

So Jay, the Sunset Provision in the AWB was a stroke of genius in an otherwise ghastly bill during absolutely anti-Gun anti-NRA times. The NRA had the faith than even though we would have to wait ten years, it would bear fruit and it did. And they hate us for it, we fucked up their master plan with one little expiration date. If the NRA hadn’t “signed in” with the AWB, it would still be the law of the land. That simple.

We live in an instant society and I understand people want all things perfect and now, but the reality is that sometimes you must fight wars by attrition and not by Shock and Awe. Maybe for the new generation we are moving at a snail’s pace, but for us old farts the changes we have seen in the last 5 years alone are nothing short of a frigging miracle.

This is such a poor and short summary and only from my point of view. If you have memories of what was to be an NRA member then, please share them in the comments section.

The KKK opens a franchise in D.C.

Yep, kid you not. The new address is 1730 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Suite 1014, Washington D.C. 20036 which also happens to be the address of the Violence Policy Center or as we call it in the Gun Culture The Brady Bunch. Sara Brady and her minions must be so desperate that they actually came out with a document stating that “Successful efforts to reduce America’s black homicide toll must put a focus on reducing access to firearms.”

The document in question, Black Homicide Victimization in the United States is basically a regurgitation of FBI statistics from the Unified Crime Report with a racist twist added. That The Brady Bunch actually came out and published such a document speaks volumes of their desperation, specially since the Heller decision and the total lack of support from the White House on Gun Control Issues. Be advised, the White House is not against instituting bans on private gun ownership, but they figured that politically it would be a third rail, specially since not even 24 hours after President Obama got inaugurated the WH web page stated that banning Evil Black Rifles was top priority and half the USA went out and bought one.

So, who else agrees with the VPC report? Sarah Brady must be proud to know that distinguished members of our society such as Stormfront – White NationalistCommunity (read KKK On Line) agrees with VPC 100% . In its forum you will find threads like No Guns for Negroes reflecting pretty much the same sentiments although without the Washington Think Tank verbosity. Same goes for the not quite National Geographic website Chimpout which not only decries the fact that a nigger has an assault rifle, but condemn the Tea Party Movement… just like any good Liberal Progressive from MSNBC would.

Perhaps VPC and company should read Clayton Cramer’s The Racist Roots of Gun Control before doing any more “papers.” Maybe again they do not care, maybe they are racists after all.

And so far, none of the good old African American activist have been heard. No NAACP, no Jesse Jackson, no Al Sharpton, no Nation of Islam, nobody. Maybe they are behaving like the good plantation drivers that they are.

Sarah Brady went to Venezuela.

Well, really she didn’t that I know of, but I found out the new Venezuelan Gun Control Law proposal and I’ve been reading it. To say that it is every gun banner’s wet dream would be an understatement of biblical proportions.

First, a little background. Venezuela is a “democracy” under the authoritarian rule of Hugo Chavez and an absolute meek pliable legislature. Laws are ordered by Hugo, usually while he rants on his weekly Sunday TV show (which every TV and radio station must carry under penalty of law) and on Monday the “Assembly” gets together to bang the “proposed” articles of the new law, puts it for vote no later than Wednesday and presents it to His Majesty on Thursday for his reading between blows of cocaine. By Friday is signed into law and published. Some laws make take some more time so they make no announcement till it is ready for publication and Hugo can claim it was his idea.

Now that the “legislative” process is covered, let’s go to the why they came out with a third gun control law during the jubilant period of eternal government by His Grace the Almighty Hugo: Crime is totally out of control. The official number of murders every year is above 15,000 for a country of under 27 million people.  To make it a tad clearer: Venezuela is roughly the size and population of Texas but it has a bit over ten times the number of murders.  98% of murders are never solved by the police and every poll in Venezuela says that the number one preoccupation for the average citizen is crime. Two other gun controls were previously adopted which included a one month grace period where every subject had to register any and all weapons with Venezuela’s Defense Department under penalty of heavy prison time. Of course criminals did not do such thing and crime kept crawling up. Have No Fear! Hugo is Here! So we have another Gun Control Law in the cauldron which promises without a doubt the elimination of crime as we know it.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • You buy the gun but it does not belong to you. It is government’s property that can be confiscated for any reason and without compensation.
  • You are allowed only ONE gun. That’s it! If you need (not want) more than one, you must make your case to the Government and go through a process which will not guarantee you anything.
  • You are allowed to own ONE reload (One spare mag or speedloader) and the reload is limited to 14 rounds.
  • You are allowed to buy only 50 rounds a year for self defense. If you use it and need it replenished, you must go through a crapload of paperwork similar to why you need another gun.
  • No hollow point ammunition. Full metal Jackets or FMJ expanding ammo only and only the ones provided by the government at their stores or the stores licensed by the Government.
  • Ammo for sporting purposes can be obtained but only at authorized ranges and under scrutiny and keeping track of every round spent. Unused ammo must be returned. Private ranges must account for every round of ammunition and keep strict tabs.
  • All ammo belongs to the state.
  • Reloading your own ammunition carries a penalty of 8 to 10 years in prison.
  • No gun modifications are allowed at all. This covers replacing any part of the gun like grips or sights.
  • Nobody but the Government is allowed to stock spare parts. You must buy the parts from them.
  • Illegal weapons carry a 10-18 year sentence
  • Illegal trafficking gets 16 years
  • Illegal bows, crossbows, air rifles or even airsofts gets you 8 years.
  • The Media MUST (under penalty of law) produce Public Service Ads explaining why guns are bad and you must be disarmed.

There is more, but I thought this was enough to make anybody sick. And if you do not think Anti Gunners wouldn’t dare to pass something like this, think again: They would kill to get that law here.

If you happen to read Spanish, you can download the proposed law here.

UPDATE: I just found out that the law has been approved as it stands by the Legislature. It is on its way to Hugo’s desk. Careful do not disturb the coke lines.

Hugo, Robert and Barrack.

Jesus! What a ride this last 60 days. From being blamed for the drug wars in Mexico to some unknown idiot bureaucrat in the DOD demanding to shred military spent brass to the biggest drop in the economy and the establishment of the bases of a Socialist Republic in the United States.

It is amazing to see that either journalists are too polite or to stupid to realize that when you say that the market drop has been the worst in 30+ years, it also includes the drop after 9-11. Or to call it like it is, President Obama was more effective in bringing down Wall Street than 2 jets crashing into the Twin Towers courtesy of Bin Laden.

The latest in grassroots movements is your local area Tea Party where people sick of the government waste of our taxes are starting to gather in protest. The resurrection of the idea behind the Boston Tea Party is seen by many with derision but so it was the original one. We are headed to a major economic crisis and this is the chance Liberal Socialist in our executive branch are waiting for to enact the death of the Republic.

But Miguel, surely you exaggerate. Well, you may think so, but contrary to what many think, what is happening now is not an unique event but it has been repeated in the past and most recently in Venezuela and Zimbabwe. A highly populist leader is elected thanks to the monies of rich idiots and the blissful adoration of a star struck liberal media. Leader takes power and economy tanks due to his ultra liberal economic policies, disrespect for the capital market and unbridled desire for social engineering. Next you know, economy tank, People enter in panic mode, demand solutions from leader, Leader provides promises of solution IF certain liberties are sacrificed for “The Common Good, People give up Basic Liberties, Leader does not fulfil promises, people are shafted and has no recourse but sit there and take it up the keister. Those were the common characteristics of Hugo Chavez and Robert Mugabe and, so far they are eerily similar to what president Obama is doing.  The one that struck me the most was ACORN taking over private property in the name of social reform and defense of the poor which is a faithful copy of Chavez’s Circulos Bolivarianos of Venezuela.

However there is one big difference so far between those Banana Countries (I won’t soil the title of Republic by associating it with those places) with the USA: Armed population. Both Mugabe and Chavez managed to introduce even more draconian gun control laws in countries already “free” from firearms before the final push. Roving bands of criminals and government supporters (and in some cases they are one and the same) now roam freely in cities and countryside terrorizing innocent subjects (no citizens there) and either stealing them of life and property or making sure no dissidence is felt. Unarmed People are just powerless to reclaim the rights the so freely gave away.

Interesting enough, Chavez ran his first presidential campaign under the banner of Change. Forewarned is forearmed.

Lou Dobbs on Holder and The New AWB.

You know hearing those kinds of arrogant and insipid remarks from — for a large measure of a government that is as corrupt as that of Mexico. It’s really irritating and then to hear a U.S. attorney general match up with his counterpart in Mexico, lamenting the Second Amendment, I mean these are two despicable statements by two men who should be acting responsibly in their positions and there seems to be no — no real protest. But the idea that Eric Holder would talk about the Second Amendment being jeopardized to the convenience of the Mexican government, which is at best incompetent and at worse corrupt.

‘Nuff said.
