Why some morons shouldn’t have girlfriends.

Browsing through Youtube, I landed on a batch of clips titled “Why Girls (or women) shouldn’t shoot (Desert Eagle, AK 47, 12 gauge shotguns, your-pick-here.) It really pisses me off twofold: first, what kind of low life sets up an inexperienced woman with a firearm, tapes her failure and posts its in the internet for the world to laugh at her? And second, Moron Boyfriend (probably a 3per) just transformed this woman into a full fledged victim because she will probably never touch another firearm again even if her life depends on it!

Ladies, if you are dating an idiot like that, dump his ass. If you are married to one, divorce him, take all his worldly posessions and move next door to a cute firearms instructor. There is no reason to be afraid of guns other than not being trained and not knowing how to handle one. There are a lot of firearms instructors that will teach you the basics and the more advanced stuff so you can defend yourself.  And there is a program called First Shots where you can go get your first experience with firearms for free.

Even though the net is plagued with the above mentioned videos, you can easily find the good ones like this young lady shooting for the first time and getting good at it or a Liberal shooting for the first time or a 12 year old girl shooting a full size .45 or young Heather shooting full size .357 Magnum and sharing her thoughts and even a woman shooting a supressed (gasp!) fully automatic MP-5. All of them have also another thing in common: They are smiling which means they are having fun! What are the odds?

And the love of my life shooting her Rossi snub nose in .357 Magnum. She is so good at it I am a well behaved hubby!

Go get some training, get empowered and have some fun!

Kids, Guns and other politically incorrect stuff.

Our club just celebrated our annual Picnic Match which tends to be a working affair for the busy bees and fun more most everybody else. The highlight is the side Kid’s match where the parents are encouraged to bring the little ones to shoot a variety of .22 caliber weapons against targets that provide immediate feedback like spinners and such. It is grueling work for whomever gets stuck with running it, but it is satisfactory at the same tome to see youngins just rip round after round of ammunition and beat the lights out of those spinners.

My personal highlight was to see the face of absolute joy of a girl who had never fired a gun before, connecting with her target for the first time. The combination of surprise, joy and pride was just perfect. In fact the girls were scary in their their dedication and accomplishment. They took the “task” seriously spinning targets with an almost boring regularity but they never got bored themselves, they just had that fierce determination to bet the heck out of brothers, cousins, friends and acquaintances.

The club is not a “serious” club by any means. But the Picnic Match gives it a more relaxed tone once a year. With range space a premium in South Florida, to be able to just take it easy, shoot a couple of IDPA stages, have lunch, take a raffle, BS a while and then get back to shooting.

A Rainbow coalition (whites, blacks, hispanic, orientals and some undetermined breeds were present) of armed citizens enjoyed a day of shooting with family and friends. No crimes were committed, no fistfights, no stabbings, no rapes, no crimes even though 75% of those present had a gun affixed to their waist. Intelligentsia says this was not supposed to happen, that a concentration of guns like this mixed with kids is a recipe for disaster, that bodies must fall bleeding profusely by bullet holes specially since there was an <gasp> “assault rifle” in the mix.

I am guessing Intelligentsia is wrong and has been wrong for a long long time.

What I want for the New Year.

I m not calling them New Year’ resolutions because you well know it is a damn jinx. So, just simply what I want to do and will try to achieve, nothing more.

  1. Take care of myself: That means lose weight ( I did a great job earlier this year but let it slide some) and once and for all give up smoking. I ain’t getting any younger and all that crap I pulled as a youngster is coming back seeking payment in the form of aches, pains and tiredness.
  2. Seek a new job: Fortunately I am employed while millions are not, but this place is less than ideal in both monetary compensation and population of buttholes. I am getting older and grouchier and my standard allergy to idiots seems to have become much more sensitive, specially when a butthole tries to get me fired.
  3. Get more people into guns: I have scheduled a class for 3 individuals for NRA’s Basic Pistol on the second week of January. Let’s see if I can do more and more every month.
  4. Shoot more: This year I caught up with my abandoned IDPA but I am till short with rifle and no shotgun whatsoever. I started an ICORE thing down here, but unless I figure a way to get some range time, it may die in the vine as it is hard to get revolver shooters.  Must buy more primers and powder!
  5. Buy more books: I need fresh stuff and soon. I have on cue the Dexter and Jessie Stone series but I am guessing it will hold me till the first of March. As future buys are Paul Kirchner’s “Deadliest Men” books and his book on Cirillo’s Tales from the Stakeout Squad. Massad Ayoob’s Stressfire series and Gun Digest of Concealed Carry. Bill Jordan’s No Second Place Winner alongside Jeff Cooper To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak The Truth. Anything new from W.E.B. Cooper, Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, Brad Thor and whomever I don’t know yet but writes this kind of thrillers. Also, I will need more wood to build book shelves even though my room has no space left on the walls.
  6. Go back to fishing: I did not do any fishing this year and I am ashamed because I am blessed with a great man-made lake as backyard. I can literally cast from my back porch and fight a nice peacock bass. My excuse was that my 2 rods died on me (ask me about South Florida UV ray dosage and their effects on fiberglass) but I am sure there will be some nice sales at BassPro. I did get a nice Gatorback medium for peanuts about 5 years ago and I am sure something similar will come along…. where the heck are my lures?
  7. Keep up this Blog: For myself and the 4 or 5 guys and gals that visit it. Besides, I already paid 2 extra years for the domain name :)

Keyphrases used on search engines.

Now this is fun. Here are several of the key searches that landed people in this blog.

Number one with a bullet for a single item is robin of berkeley. It comes from the entry Why do liberals bleed? and I am still trying to figure out who is behind this Nom de Guerre.

With the terrorist attack in Ft. Hood, Gun Free Zone and its variants make for the biggest bulk of the entries.  And yes, I am still trying to figure out why something being so obvious can be so elusive to some alleged “smart” people and I am not alone when the query is why did an army base have a gun free zone?.

I am glad to see several queries on securing weapon cars and securing handgun in small car. I like personal responsibility and this gives me a lot of warm fuzzy. Same for locked box for weapons for air travel and center of mass make the secure it handgun safe.

The wasr 7.62 left handed thread pattern and variants seems to appear at least a couple of times a month. I am guessing there is more than one WASR owner cussing Century Arms up and down the coast. Welcome to the club!

This one is worrisome: make your house a gun free zone. Why?

Good news. No kinky stuff or weird Canadian pharmacy sales.

The Warrior Song

The Warrior Song is less than humble, is not We Are The World, no Kumbaya or has no “social redeeming value”-Save-The-Whales-Combat-Global-Warming. Hell, this song will increase Global and possible Galaxy Warming!

All profits from the sale of this song will be donated to the Armed Forces Relief Trust. Get it in ITunes.

Retaking a semblace of normality.

I am lucky to have been laid off and found a job again when the unemployment and the economy is so crappy. But I have to say that working 2300 to 0070 does put your life in a spin cycle specially since I ain’t a young pup anymore. It has taken almost a month to adapt to the concept that I am a pumpkin and the rest of the world is not. Add to it that the body tends to reboot once it sees sunlight but the reboot is less than satisfactory due to working like a vampire and what you get is the brain of a zombie trying to get things done and my mind suffers the equivalent of Windows Blue Screen of Death.

But now that I am somewhat used to the new routine, I realized I am so behind in several things, I am ashamed I let everything go. My shooting has gone to crap. Even though I managed to set one day off to be able to attend my IDPA matches, the change in schedule compounded with the nasty heat and humidity of South Florida brought what appeared to be cluster headaches (at least according to WebMD.) I had headaches before but having a headache lasting 16 hours is not an enjoyable experience. I became light and sound sensitive so you can imagine this fool bravely attempting to get a day in the range, failing miserably and having to run home crying like a teenage girl watching Twilight.  Let’s see if I can make it up this Saturday.

I need to reload. God I am so low in ammo that I might make one IDPA match and one ICORE match… barely. Reloading components are still hard to get, specially primers. I am well stocked in brass and lead for casting bullets, somewhat OK in powder but awfully short on primers. And I refuse to buy primers at stupid prices so I am caught between the anvil and the executioner’s axe. Anyway, that will be first on my To Do List.

I got a 24×12 (or something like that) sheet of airplane kydex for under $15. I’ve been meaning to retake my speed loader and AK mag pouch projects but lack of inexpensive materials with a crappy income put aq stop to that. I do need at least 4 more speed loader pouches for ICORE and I will try to duplicate an AK Mag holder that Rob of Tactical Yellow Visor was kind enough to loan me. I swear the first company that figures there is a huge need for inexpensive AK gear will make friging millions.

I did order EOTAC’s Vickers Duty Gloves from Dale who is our local Tactical Gear Pusher and duly sworn EOTAC dealer. I am still smarting from the last rifle drills night a couple of months ago. WASRs are tough, reliable but murder for the hands. A review will be forthcoming before it is against the law to do so.

I do want to happily announce that the last barrier has collapsed and my dear wife has finally agreed to get her Concealed Weapons Permit. She will be the third student to get training from this NRA instructor. If I want to be accurate, she has been getting the training for the last year a bit at a time although not in a class format. I think by now she must have somewhere in the vicinity of 50 hours of me talking about guns and self-defense but needs some range time (Honey, expect some 200 rounds worth of active shooting) plus a last minute overdose of Florida Statutes 790.
