Miami police say they consider the spike in shootings this year an “outlier.” They say major crime numbers remain low overall and put much of the blame on the end of the federal Assault Weapons Ban in 2004. Police say the lax gun laws leave them unable to track the number of weapons purchased or when they were bought. People purchasing weapons at gun shows or in shops are not required to register them.
Turf wars also get blame.

Get it? The spike in murders we saw last year is because a Federal Law that expired 10 years ago. I guess it took all that time getting from D.C. to Miami in order for the Gang Bangers to get the news…Oh I am sorry, there is no such thing as gangs in Miami, they all left for places north like Chicago or L.A. And when Miami PD mention “turf wars” it is about landscapers trying to get a good price on St. Augustine grass sod at the local Home Depots. Landscapers can get nasty and you really don’t wanna see the mass casualties they can inflict with a cordless trimmer.
I really do not know who is the dumbest here, the White Shirts for coming out with so lame excuses of the reporters that act like hungry guppies and swallow those flakes of BS.

Ye gods… And that crap’s been going on down there for YEARS!!! How about the truth? They steal the guns, shoot each other for robberies or drugs or women or all of the above… Then steal more guns.
Despite lower crime elsewhere, 43 people have been shot and seven of them have died in a rash of violence in and around a Miami public housing project.
Wow, so these “lax gun laws”, unregistered guns bought at the gun show loophole, and expiration of the Assault Weapons Ban only affected these 18-square-blocks of Miami.
That is their excuse…. remember: No gangs in Miami.
Seriously, the only way you will know we have a gang problem like any other city, is watching The First 48 show on A&E. We will see a Velociraptor problem before they admit we have a gang problem.
Just heard the same excuse tonite in Stlouis, Mo., “lax” gun laws. Our mayor and police chief specifically brought up Misouri 10th Amendment which passed, reiterating our right to bear arms. I call bullshit! Keep in mind, many of us were of the opinion that the vote was unnecessary, considering we already have that right, and we’re debating the need to even vote for it. Sure happy I did!
I also notice, no one has yet to provide any stats on whether any of the guns used in any of these crimes were ‘legal’ to begin with. I suspect that information will not be forthcoming anytime soon, if at all.
On the flip side, I did agree with everything else said, including Cheif Dotson citing how our crime rate for the year was down by 13% at the end of July, and ever since has gone thru the roof (6 homicides in STL last nite alone). The timing here is important, as it coincides with the rise of crime following and continuing since the Mike Brown shooting. People don’t see this for what it is, a lot of out of town types, and locals emboldened by the actions that have been tolerated, all with a much, much, lower regard for law enforcement. I actually think the locals are getting ideas and tips on crime commitment from lowlifes now in the area for protests, etc. Kinda of a ‘how to, hands on’ class, if you will. You may laugh, but these guys gotta get ideas from somewhere…
Recently, there has been a major push to catch looters, and efforts to get video footage out to the public in hopes of people turning them in. Unfortunately, a lot of it is from months ago, and I am sure many of these people are long gone.
Personally, I wonder how much may possibly be attributed to lack of enthusiasm, or time, on the part of our ‘Boys in Blue’?

Does this mean that the laws of physics don’t apply in Miami’s Liberty Square area? After all, if it took 596 rounds, fired over the course of 3 minutes and 32 seconds, to destroy an M4 carbine, how much more weapon-destroying heat would be generated by firing “hundreds of bullets in the blink of an eye”?
Perhaps the faculty of University of Miami’s physics department should look into this anomaly of thermodynamics.
