First, a lame attempt to recreate “Wolverines!” and which I decided to call “Olderines!”

And this set of pics showed me the raw beauty of the simple AK: My fat gloved fingers had no problems inserting the mag, operating the safety lever, racking rounds manually, and finding the trigger with ease and space to operate. The stock is not original (I believe it is K-Var) but I kept the Soviet Block length rather than transitioning to the American extra inch stock and yes, it fits beautifully.
This effing rifle was designed to be shot in the cold, period. It gave me shivers.
Too funny! Olderines… yes you can tell the AK was designed for cold clumsy shaky guys like us… and the placement of “full auto” in the middle position is brilliant. I kinda miss mine sometimes.

So, what was the mount for your optic? Is is solid and accurate?
Side-mounted rail. I never trusted the cover rails.
I’m reminded of a bit of file footage used periodically by the local TV news station, showing some random middle eastern terrorist running around some village, shooting his AK-47 from the hip — an AK-47 with a scope mounted on it.
