Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

  1. It was found by the right people.
Some knucklehead from oregon or washington state would have buried it in retaliation for all the people it had no doubt murdered in olden times…

  2. Federal jobs are about the only place for a practical ‘archeologist’ to get work. No Indiana Jones positions out there, really.

They probably took it VERY seriously.

Not that I would know, but I have had them swarm over WWII era bones.

  3. My first thought was “OMGTHATISFRIKKINAWESOME” with maybe a little fanboy squee (just a small one). My follow-on thoughts were along the lines of “Dang, that’s in bad shape. Wonder if its loaded? How would you check, with all that rust? Would ammo still be firable after all that time? Dang, but that would look awesome hanging on my wall, there’s GOT to be a serial number on it somewhere, wonder if they kept records back then?”

    1. From other articles about the rifle: It is unloaded, and the serial number, still legible, indicates it was manufactured in 1882. No information has yet been located about its owner.
