When I was young and impulsive, specially with my words, mom would repeat over and over and old Spanish saying:

Lo cortes no quita lo valiente. (You don’t lose anything by being polite.)

But apparently being polite and maybe daring to be sensitive to the temporary whims of a population is sign of weakness and becoming a second class citizen for some. You are a true man if you behave like a dickhead because you can.

This is from a FB group discussing the video in my last post.

The OC community needs to start reigning in the extremists that truly are not for advancing gun rights but to see how far they can get away with shit. They have the mentality of toddlers pushing boundaries and do not realize how harmful it is till they get spanked… and then start crying calling mom unfair and a meanie.

Just like they are doing with Walmart.

  1. Shorter OC’er “I’m going to open carry in their stores and act like a total asshole, that’ll show them!”

If you’re carrying with the express purpose of “going out to be a confrontational asshole” on other people’s private property, you are the problem. Not even your OC’d gun, you.

I OC’d for years because I didn’t have a Delaware permit. On the rare occasion I was hassled, I was respectful, deferential and extremely polite.

You do not want the average soccer mom, middle class american equating “person carrying gun” with “asshole” Unfortunately that’s exactly what these people are doing.

  2. All the niceties aside, I teach my kids that politeness costs you nothing and in vast majority of cases is beneficial to you. Thus, no matter the provocation, one has to maintain a composed and courteous facade. At the same time, there are very rare situations when politenes is tried and proved ineffectual. The vast and diverse universe of profanities did not evolve without a reason. The question is always what your goals are and can you live with consequences, especially in our age of blanket surveillance.

As for open carry, no matter what my personal opinion is, I am very aware of disbalance of cultures. I believe in live and let live. But I have a lot of things shoved into my face that I find ghastly and disturbing. I am told that I have to tolerate it. There are people that find guns ghastly and disturbing. But they do not have to tolerate it?

Walmart usually gets at least some subsidies from local governments when moving into new communities. Thus it is not really independent of government. Now, how about that first and second amendments?

As always, some are more equal than others.

  3. Something that’s getting lost in several discussions of OC, especially with long-arms is circumstances.

In Texas, long arms were the only OC legally allowed. To carry sensibly and politely you’d need to break the law. Their antics, I keep pointing out, did not lead to Texas not getting open carry for handguns.

The Florida Carry event that’s pissed so many people off was a response to the police illegally detaining members the previous month. An over the top response was warranted. The police appear to have learned their lesson and based on other observations, they would not have learned a damn thing if Florida Carry had remained understated and polite.

I want the context when someone posts a picture of “some idiot” carrying a rifle openly.

Mainly because there’s a substantial portion of the pro-gun side that’s perfectly content that open carry is illegal and think it’s a fine idea to make it illegal if it’s not already.

Being polite about it has gotten us what? Being nice has gotten us what?

I’m all for tactics that work. Being nice and polite is getting us ignored.

Our rights are not being advanced.

I have fewer gun rights now than when I moved here 20 years ago.

I am fed up being lectured on “don’t scare the white people” and not being given an alternative that’s actually effective in making changes to the laws and advancing liberty.

It’s why I’m down on the NRA in Florida. We lost open carry and campus carry because Cat Lady couldn’t be assed to support the bill. She had the audacity to lecture us on doing things wrong when it was her intervention(s) that keep killing those bills. She acts like she’s our sole source of information from up Tallahassee way.

As bad as the NRA has been in Florida, they’re still better than GOA. GOA is a money sink where funds disappear and mass emails come out.

  4. Being wrong also does not make you less of an American.

He is right. Either Walmat can ban blacks and guns from their property, or they can’t. Its not two separate rules.

He is not saying he will be a jackass, just exercising rights like siting at a public counter.

You can either support rights or not.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
