  1. I heard that if you did not when to use “thee” as opposed to “thou” they would make the hostage sit in silence until the Spirit moved them. Oh, the horror!

    stay safe.

  2. I can’t believe we’re still going to bring in Quaker refugees after this. Can this country really put up with any more quilt stands and handmade wooden furniture?

  3. In all seriousness, the Mrs. and I both noticed in this morning’s news broadcasts about Mali, the talking heads were falling over themselves pointing out that the attackers were (and this is a direct quote) “shouting ‘God is Great’ in Arabic”.

Please. Like we don’t know what they were really shouting. Just because you don’t have the stones to say “Allahu Akbar” doesn’t mean the attackers were referring to kittens, unicorns, and rainbows.

    1. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with actually translating the words people say so that their plain meaning may be understood. The Arabic words “Allahu ackbar” have a specific meaning that can also be communicated in other languages, and if our audience doesn’t speak Arabic, I don’t see why we wouldn’t translate that phrase.

Why would anyone associate this with kittens and rainbows? Are you alleging that “Allahu ackbar” does NOT mean “God is great”* in Arabic?

*I’ve been told that a more scrupulously correct translation would be “the Deity is the greatest.”

      1. No, he’s not alleging that it is not the correct rough translation. That, however, is not the point.

There is only one group using their religion as support for their terror activities. Baptists do not go around taking hostages and bombing cafes. Seventh Day Adventists do not hijack airplanes and crash them into buildings. Neither Methodists nor Lutherans wear explosive vests and attempt to kill those who do not believe their brand of Christianity. Mormons are not the ones targeting market places and malls with grenades and Kalashnikovs.

While it may be true that there have been individuals of any of the above mentioned Christian denominations who have committed some sort of terrorist type attack, they have not done so because of their religion (at least, there has never been a single case of it of which I am aware–if you know of one, please let me know). The great example everyone likes to point to is the Oklahoma City bombing. Shitbag (who I will not name) is often erroneously called a Christian (he was not-he was an agnostic, actually). But, even if he were a Christian, he did not commit his terrorist act because of his religion, or as an attack on those not of his religion.

Secondly, because only one group is doing these kind of activities, and they are using their religion as justification for it, they are often known to shout “Allahu ackbar” which translates roughly as “Allah is the Greatest.” * They do not shout this in English, nor in German nor Yiddish. It is Arabic, and it is spoken in Arabic, because most members of the religion, especially the radical ones bent on jihad and murder, are Arabic. Therefore, translating into English is actually a disservice to those who might potentially be hearing it one day, because the terrorist who’s going to shout it isn’t going to shout it in English or any other language. He’s going to shout it in Arabic. If you hear it, you are going to hear it in Arabic.

        * Ask a Muslim to recite the shahada. “There is no God but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

If Allah means God, you could recite back to him, “there is no God but God,” but he will stop you there and insist you say it correctly. Try it. It’s quite illuminating.

  4. Mr. Archer: I’m SHOCKED, yes, SHOCKED! that you watch TV news! Myself, I attribute the Paris attacks, and the Mali attacks, to the Amish. After all, Mrs Clinton (May Allah bless her!)ruled that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam!

  5. I don’t know why so many try and make this about religion it is not it is about hate and ignorance that the terrorist cowards have for anyone that is not like them.

    1. It’s because they make it about religion. Submit, convert or die. That’s what they want those not of their religion to do. You are correct about the rest of it, but they are using their religion as a reason to do what they do.
