I can’t think of a category

Open Carry, Open Warfare.

Let me make this clear: I will never Open Carry out on the street. I think from a self defense standpoint is dumb as wet crackers for caulking and I open carry only in 2 places: At the range and at home.  That out of the way I want to address the issue within the gun community known as Open Carry = Stupidity. If Open Carry is legal in your state and you want to do it, fine with me since it is your right, God Bless and you will have my support 100% because it is your right. What is royally pissing me off is the name-calling and infighting of some in the Concealed Carry against Open Carry bands and the obvious responses from the Open crowd.

Let’s be clear about Open Carry. It is not the question of tactically sound practices but of Civil Rights and to oppose Open Carry just because it makes your inner Black Nylon Ninja cringe is not reason enough to oppose it. Actually you are no better than Chuck Schummer or Sarah Brady when you voice your “tactical” concern. If you oppose Open Carry you are just pulling a Jim Zumbo by badmouthing on our right.

The Chicken Littles are eager to point out that Open carry is scaring normal people and that results in police interventions and bad press for the cause. That sounds pretty much like people complaining about niggers interloping with the withe folks in common areas exclusively reserved for Whites. Yes I make it sound bad because it is that bad and this is no time to be pulling punches about it. We must support all Law Abiding Citizens’ choice of weapon and methods of carrying just as we must support the First Amendment rights of every Che, Barrack and Pelosi out there no matter how disgusted we could become.

That is not to say that some in the Open Carry crowd are without sin. I have seen in forums the glee which some OC people have in confronting Law Enforcement and making them look bad in their ignorance of the law. This is very counterproductive for us too and I believe it will erode the confidence of the rank & file police officer that was either with us from the beginning or came around after realizing that CCW was not such a dumb idea and figured out that those citizens were not only the least of their problems but supporters of LEOs.

So boy and girls on both sides of the carrying issue, CHILL!

WASR Brake. A solution found.

On a previous post, I ranted about the sheer stupidity of Century Arms on having some of their WASRs with a non-standard thread for the muzzle brake and then trying to charge and arm and a leg for a replacement brake that could not be found anywhere else. I kept badgering AK sites wondering if a solution could be found and indeed one has.

Brian Smithwick of Dinzag Arms is coming up with an adapter for the WASR and at a reasonable price. No I am not gonna say how much but suffice to say that even the wife is happy and it is much lower than what Century was trying to stiff me with for the substitute slant brake. If you have the same problem, please visit Brian’s site and get in touch with him.  He has been very supportive and I do want him to profit from his effort. For those who are more technical and proficient, he recommends to change the whole FSB with one of his design and with the threads ready. It is not available yet in the website, but Brian has them and also at a very good price.

WARNING: If you are a Saiga Shotgun or Vper Rifle fan, you may end up shelling lots of moola when you land in Dinzag Arms. All kinds of accessories and tools to convert and improve your guns are available.

Brian, thanks for everything!

UK Follies: Philip Clarkson Webb.

Behold the criminal! Ladies and gentlemen I present you Philip Clarkson Webb, criminal extraordinaire according to UK’s Kent Police. The 78-year-old retired teacher was walking one day when he was suddenly surrounded by Kent Police who demanded that he turned in a “dangerous weapon” in his possession. Was Mr. Webb carrying an dangerous AK 47? Perhaps a dreaded Street Sweeper shotgun? A high capacity semi automatic pistol? Dirty Harry’s .44 magnum? Nope. He was carrying his walking stick, a 3 foot long piece of wood that seniors sometime use to aide themselves while waking.

According to MailOnline, there was a climate camp environmental demonstration in the area and police were vigilant of possible activist. Mr. Webb clearly looks like one (insert snicker here) so police approached him, took away his “dangerous weapon” and left him limping to his own devices. They were polite enough to give him a receipt for the cane but when Mr. Webb went to the station to return it, the walking stick was nowhere to be found thus adding insult to injury.

This is a sad comentary on UK’s Nanny State and fear of just about anything. It also tell us much about the failed results of Gun Control proponents on reducing violence through a gun-less society: a bigger restriction or downright elimintation of our rights anf freedoms. I am sure that police saw as “reasonable” relieving Mr. Webb of his “weapon” and that is why when you hear any politician claim he or she is in favor of “reasonable” gun control, you should stock up in ammo, hide your weapons and vote for the person who would unseat that clown and respect our Bill of Rights.

The Chicago Gun Free Zone Experiment: Failure.

According to CBS 2 Chicago, the 2008 summer has not been kind to the residents of the Windy City. One hundred and twenty three residents were shot dead between Memorial day and Labor Day. Now, this was not supposed to happen, no sir. According to Mayor Daley and the cognoscenti from the Brady Bunch, Chicago’s Gun Ban guarantees a violence-free environment where children can play freely and adults live in peace without the threat of death or maiming by bullets.

This would be risible except for the fact that 123 people died this summer. As the report mentions U.S. Service men were safer in a war zone than citizens were in the Gun Free City.  Chicago Eldermen will answer the same way they always do: with more Gun Control and with less Civil Rights with the inevitable conclussion of more innocent people dead that nevertheless will have a chance for the same old Pro Criminal policticians in future elections.

Bloody Lessons not learned. Stupidity and Ingnorance kills.

Update:

Great article in Human Events about the Chicago Summer of Murder. Best quote is this:

But those options don’t appeal to Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis. What he proposes is a crackdown on assault weapons….As of March 31, there had been 87 homicides in the city. When I asked the Chicago Police Department how many of the murders are known to have involved assault rifles, the answer came back: one.

Oy!
