Fritz Steiner will take over as dean of University of Pennsylvania School of Design on July 1. The job offers an opportunity to join the Ivy League and return to the school where he earned three postgraduate degrees. But Steiner said he has turned down similar opportunities in the past, and probably would have done the same if people weren’t going to be allowed to carry guns in classrooms and other places on the UT-Austin campus next school year. “I would have never applied for another job if not for campus carry,” he said in an interview. “I felt that I was going to be responsible for managing a law I didn’t believe in.”

And he is being celebrated up and down the Anti Gun circles as a stand up guy.
Nobody tell him that although U. Penn does have a policy against firearms, the state has no legal prohibition in its laws to carry on campus if you have a permit.
Ouch.
You can’t make this stuff up.
How much controversy can he expect in architecture. That is a subject for people too bad at math to hack it in civil engineering.
Unless they do pat-downs and have checkpoints at the U Penn property lines, the GFZ policies are just words on paper. A student (or anyone else for that matter) could have a pistol concealed on their person and no one would be the wiser unless the person in question did something dumb.

Pod and Miguel, I am a PA CCW holder, and while I’m pretty sure you’re right and you can carry legally on campus with a state CCW, the school has broad jurisdiction over its policies and punishments. I imagine if you got caught, you’d probably be lucky if you just got expelled. Also, the city of Philadelphia is difficult about issuing CCW permits, much easier out elsewhere in the state.
Penn isn’t exactly situated in the greatest area, but its not terrible, and I wouldn’t risk getting caught and expelled carrying concealed if I was a student there.
