Former Iranian ambassador to Syria and a hostage-taker of U.S. diplomats, Hossein Sheikholeslam, died Thursday from a Covid19 infection, local news outlets report.

An advisor to the Islamic Republic Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, 68-year-old Sheikholeslam was one of the leaders of the so-called “Muslim Student Followers of Imam’s Line,” who took 52 U.S. diplomats hostage, on November 4, 1979, and released them after 444 days.

  1. Considering that it was Chinese nuclear workers who brought the virus to Iran while working on Iran’s nuclear power [weapons] program, that virus could wipe out most of Iran and I would consider it a benevolent act of God.

  2. My inner 14 year old, can’t help but notice the guy’s name was Hossein Sheikholeslam. Sheik hole slam? Hole slam?? Heh heh.

I’m kind of surprised that at age 66 I even have an inner 14 year old, but there it is.
