They have to be bullsh…preaching to their choir because nobody with two neurons connected together can see this and actually believe it.
CSGV Texas 3006

Here is a close up of the collage:

CSGV Texas 3006 1

So, how tall are big are the signs? According to Texas Penal code 30.06 the letters must be an inch tall and the text being:

“Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.”

The above text must also be provided in Spanish.

I checked a store that sells the sign and they are about 30″ x 30″ or 18″ inches shorter than the obviously made-up monstrosity cooked up by CSGV.

Now the sign is nothing new. It has been the law since Texas went CWP and this one looks stupidly done to boot so, who are they trying to convince? And about what?

If the sign bothers them so much, Texas can go Florida Style and just make the signs pretty decorations that can be ignored. That will solve all the problems.

  1. I personally find it funny how CSGV has reduced themselves to being the water boys for MDA. Does anyone know the last time CSGV had their own, unique, campaign that wasn’t originally started by MDA or Brady?

  2. Howdy Miguel,

The problem is, I believe is that getting caught in a posted area with a firearm means an automatic trespassing charge which can include jail time. The size of the sign is mandated to remove the “I didn’t see it” defense.
Minnesota actually requires larger letters, 1 1/2″ albeit with fewer words and no Spanish. But the law here is that you cant be charged unless you refuse to leave after being asked. First offense is a maximum $25 fine and you keep your gun.
Plus, if a business elects to go with a smaller non-compliant sign, the only thing they sacrifice is the immediate arrest. Most people carrying will avoid the business and people who do carry past a noncompliant sign can still be asked to leave, which would result in a trespassing charge if they refuse.

    1. That’s kind of like here in Iowa. If you ignore the sign, they can ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave they call the coppers, who ask you to leave. Only after refusing to leave when asked by the coppers can you be charged with trespass.

I regularly ignore the signs with the exception of the VA. I don’t need any fed trouble.

      1. I actually religiously respect all legal signs and even those that make an attempt to convey the wishes of the owners. And they then get not one penny of my money.
ISO however have no qualms about ignoring illegal signs such as a mall posting no carry which is illegal in Minnesota.
Landlords aren’t allowed to post and that is what a mall is. Posting is done by the individual stores.

  3. Funny how they have no problems putting burdens on other people, but as soon as the burden is on something they don’t like, look out!

    1. GS, I agree.

I think that any sign that limits any of my BORs should be required to be the size of a highway bill board. After strict scrutiny is applied that is.

  4. Big signs are good. If you expect me to obey a No Tresspassing sign like that, It is only fair to make sure everyone can see and read it. Personally I think they should be required to post the sign with a 100 lumen red flashing light on it to call attention to it.

And it should be required to be posted on every entrance and exit. Miss an emergency exit door? Too Bad, So Sad, no crime has been committed as the posting was deficient.

  5. This is the USA, right ? It seems to me that you could make the sign less than half the size by just posting it in ENGLISH! I realize the law requires the sign to be bilingual, but that is what needs to change. A state should not be allowed to force you to post anything in spanish.
