I checked on the Florida Statutes and found nothing forbidding dueling outright. And specially with the upcoming elections, I figure it would make for a very entertaining political season.
Just a thought… I know…we are civilized now.

I could be wrong, but it appears to me the handwritten word is ‘Attacked’ not ‘attracted’. Seems a more logical statement, and the letter count matches.
Nice thought, but dueling only works in an honor-driven society where reputation is king. Duelers showed up to the duel because they were afraid of being called cowards and tarnishing their reputations. The clowns today think NOTHING about lying to your face, even when it is blatantly apparent to anyone listening. And reputations are somehow enhanced in modern society by how much you can get away with, IF you are of the proper gender/race/party affiliation….

Baltimore past 300 killings; Chicago past 600. Cities like Gary, St. Louis, Detroit, have plenty of shootings. Just because your class isn’t dueling, doesn’t mean dueling isn’t rampant.
Drive-Bys and robberies are not duels but ambushes… We need to have them follow the code properly.
My Mom (otherwise a perfect Southern lady) has said that we owe the prevalence of assholes to the death of dueling. When dueling is allowed, then the chances of the assholes surviving long enough to have a significant impact on society at large is rather low. It’s pretty hard to argue with that logic. And note that the asshole class is the first to oppose dueling and honor in their attempt to shirk any responsibility to act honorably. There’s a lot to be said for an effective way to thin this repulsive population – so much that it may be time to bring back this very civilized practice. As Heinlein noted, we would gain a very polite society…

The closing of the Bladensburg Dueling Grounds (a catch all phrase for areas around Bladensburg, MD was a great political disaster for the country. If you had to back up your political beliefs with your life … well, most of Congress would chose another career path.
