Three slide locks, four magazine changes. One cop.

76 rounds shot between both officers, nine hit the suspect, that is an 11% hit ratio.  One of the officer was fired (a rookie) and the other is still suspended. I couldn’t find who was who.

If this was an IPSC Match, I figure he’d been DQed 5 times and escorted out the range.

  1. He drove away from a domestic situation at low speed.

Seventy Six rounds, how many from a moving car through their windshield?

Is this the same department that shot up a pick up with two hispanic ladies delivering newspapers? 90 shots because they thought, not confirmed, they just thought the two Mexican Women could have been Chris Dorner, a six foot plus black male?

  2. The officer with the pistol NEVER took his finger off the trigger, even when he muzzled himself. Why, with a second officer in the car, did the driver need to be holding/firing a weapon?
The officer wearing the camera was scared and obviously not very well trained, and he responded the way most untrained, armed people do when scared- they wildly fire their weapons with little regard for safety or even hitting the target. Even after the target was no longer a threat, he pumped another 5 shots into him. Even his partner was telling him to stop.
Any one of those 76 shots could have struck an innocent bystander. In this case, the cop in question is more of a danger to the community than the criminal. Keep in mind that not one shot was fired at the cops, because it was an Airsoft gun. Now I am in no way saying that the cop should ignore anything that looks like a gun, but how do you justify 76 shots from a moving vehicle when you aren’t even taking fire?

    1. “How do you justify 76 rounds”? I don’t know, but I’m sure Mas Ayoob, Jack Dumphy (etc. etc. etc.) will be along shortly to do exactly that. Remember kids, all Badges are Number 007. (And if you got that reference, you are officially Old.)

Exactly my thought as well. The passenger officer had a rifle too! Way more accurate. He could lean out the window and shoot!

But as the passenger officer probably thought all the same things we did: we aren’t chasing a someone who is just murdered a bunch of people or is shooting back at us, so there is no reason to go NUTS

  3. What is the deal with shooting through the windscreen while driving a vehicle at speed in pursuit of a fleeing suspect? I can get pulled over for simply holding my cellphone while driving in Georgia. Seems to me it pretty much guarantees inaccurate fire and deflected rounds…who teaches that and why?

  4. 4 or 5 of the 9 hits (out of 76) were delivered from 3 to 7 feet away, after the fleeing driver was was stopped and slumped over in the seat. I think those should be subtracted from your hit percentage calculation.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
