Last night I checked my status with the Miami-Dade Elections Board.
Twenty years voting! Yup, I have not missed an election since I became a citizen.
The Republican Primary is March 17 and it is a good moment to remind everybody to check their voting status. You will need to access your county’s election board or go to RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov and either double check your info or register if you are not in. Some years ago, my party registration was changed and I did not notice till I got my voter registration card. I raised hell and got it fixed without affecting my participation in the primaries.
We are seeing what is going on in Virginia. As pretty as the marches and protests are, they are being bulldozed into DC Gun Control because elections matter and Democrats took over. And yes, I know Bloomberg threw a lot of money, but you also know that our side has been snoozing while sporting the false conviction that the advances in gun rights cannot be reversed. Virginia is proving that belief very wrong.
About that Virginia thing. . . I have voted consistently, but it doesn’t help when you get re-districted from a relatively safe Republican Representative (Forbes) to a military hating Democrat (Scott). I didn’t move. This last election, there was no choice about any of the things haunting us now. I voted, but it made no difference this time.
“Why vote if my rep is dem and a huge support?”
“Why bother to vote if my guy has huge support & won’t lose anyway?”
And that is why we have Virginia.
While voting by mail may be slightly more trustworthy than voting by internet or by any other electronic device, I won’t consider it. Paper ballot, deposited into a ballot box at a polling station. I see no reason to trust any other scheme.
