Wally World has their house brand gun lock box for not much more.
I recently started working at Home Depot as a part-time gig (because full time employment no longer exists thanks to ObamaCare) and we use a couple of these boxes for storing various items like keys to the high-end tool cage.
These boxes absolutely would not stop a dedicated thief who had time and tools (even just a crowbar) from getting into it. They absolutely will stop a tweaker trying to make a quick smash-n-grab of your stereo or iPhone from also getting your pistol… and the vast majority of people stealing shit from your car are not dedicated thieves with time and tools.

A very left leaning family friend finally decided to apply for a gun license. Rittenhouse trial and videos of riots were the trigger.
When she saw me last time, she told me she could not believe how hard it was for a law abiding citizen
to get a gun. She is at the very beginning of the process and has a long road ahead of her.
The locker will be a sock stocker and a reminder, that while in the city, no matter how apprehensive she is of the environs, her hypothetical gun will have to stay in the car.

Kinda the same here. I had always been on the fiscal conservative / social liberal side of things (e.g. leave people alone unless they’re hurting someone who doesn’t want to be hurt). I became a gun owner in California, of all places, and that really brought some things home.
When I was in California back in 70-72 (Navy), when we wanted to go shoot, we’d buy something, strap it on (western style back then), climb on the motorcycles and go everywhere. None of us were ever stopped, but we did enjoy much more room on the roads. ;-))
It’s sad to see that once great state slide into communism without a whimper.
I’m holding out hope that Console Vault will release something for my vehicle. Unless and until they (or one of their competitors) do, I’m content if not happy to be using something like this.
