But I tend to be wee skeptical when they tell me that somehow 2,011 subjects of the Crown “accidentally” hung themselves.  There might be an epidemic of unregistered nooses all over Great Britain.

Brit what we die of

And as far as I know schizophrenia may lead to behavior that causes death but not the sickness on itself does not kills people.

Not shown but also stated in the graphic found in this article by The Guardian, are alcohol related deaths: 673.

  1. I have to wonder about their record-keeping and classification of events when “intentional self-harm” is grouped under “accidents and external” (it’s immediately below the “hanging/strangulation” one).

If it’s intentional, doesn’t that specifically rule out the possibility of it being an “accident”? And if it’s “self-harm”, doesn’t that specifically rule out the possibility of it being an “external” cause?

    1. Well, you could intend to harm yourself but not wish to die. That’s the only way I can make logical sense out of it.

  2. From what I remember… GB does not count any death as a murder until there is actually a conviction of the murderer. No suspect, no murder. No case, no murder. Just because they were shot, stabbed, or beaten does not mean they were murdered according to the British rules.

Imagine if Chicago or Detroit had those rules? It would look like a crime free paradise. Chicago cleared only 30% of its murders last year. But that was a 20% improvement from the previous year, where only 25% were cleared. Suddenly 600 dead bodies would be only 180 “murders” according to the folks in Britain.
