I am a fan of logic. Some people apparently are not, specially when they latch onto a buzzword that apparently is supposed to work like a Harry Potter spell.
It dawned on me this people have no frigging idea what takes to de-escalate. Heck, I been reading about true de-escalation for a decade or more and still have not found out the magic Thechnomage incantations (Babylon 5 alert!) that would assure me an attacker would stop his attack. It is something that can be very particular to a person, moment and location, even culture. And despite all our training, we know that the terrible fact we may end up failing to de-escalate and may have to resort to deadly force, is something we had to accept knowing damned well there will be consequences after but knowing that the consequences of doing nothing would have been worse.
But we have Twitter experts like the idiot above who can barely write the buzzword and that is enough to make them experts. And the echo chamber from she erupts is loud and 1,000 times stupider.

Back when they were first being developed, that was supposed to have been “TASER!” followed of course by relevant appropriate gestures.
More and more, Bab5 has become prediction more than fiction.

Sadly, I don’t see us getting past the third or fourth season.

Perhaps. The the “real facts” vs “good facts” period of terran history is also eerily relevant.
Maybe the problem isn’t with the police, but with the willingness to de-escalate in some sub-cultures? I mean, even if I had a knife and wanted to attack someone, a cop pointing a gun in my direction would override that desire.
Heinlein was in some ways, a prophet.
The case behind Lozito v. New York City is the gold standard of the quality of de-escalation to be provided.
The problem with buzzwords is that they mean whatever the speaker/writer wants them to mean at the time.
That those words have an actual, generally-accepted definition — one which rarely if ever comports with the Left’s usage — doesn’t matter.
In fact, when the Left improperly uses buzzwords, I firmly believe that’s the goal: To control the language by destroying accepted definitions, making every word mean in that moment just what they choose it to mean — neither more nor less.
Getting shot is the ultimate de-escalation of a knife attack.
