There are some blood-thirsty predators out there. They do not value life so, why should we value theirs?

  1. There have always been a strata of people, who, for whatever reason respond to threats with appeasement. I do not understand the psychology of appeasement, but it occurs in both humans and animals (a dog rolling over and showing you its belly is a perfect example).

    The appeasers will never fight, but what is worse is that they try to convince others to become appeasers as well. It is a dangerous way of life, both personally and politically.

    The great English Poet, Rudyard Kipling, put it best in his poem “Danegeld.” For those who do not know, Danegeld translates to Danish Gold, and is the tribute that the Vikings demanded from costal villages in exchange for not being raided:

    It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
    To call upon a neighbour and to say: —
    “We invaded you last night–we are quite prepared to fight,
    Unless you pay us cash to go away.”

    And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
    And the people who ask it explain
    That you’ve only to pay ’em the Dane-geld
    And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

    It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
    To puff and look important and to say: —
    “Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
    We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

    And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
    But we’ve proved it again and again,
    That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
    You never get rid of the Dane.

    It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
    For fear they should succumb and go astray;
    So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
    You will find it better policy to say: —

    “We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
    No matter how trifling the cost;
    For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
    And the nation that pays it is lost!”

  2. I don’t remember who penned this but I saved it for just such a situation as this.

    Some people do not want your money. Some people do not want your car. Some people do not want your virginity. Some people do not want your stuff. Some people just want to watch it all, including you, burn. And these people – if they really can be called “people” – will not be swayed, deterred, or even slowed by something as idiotic and poorly thought-out as “gun control”; you need only look at the complexity and scale of the explosive traps set in the Aurora shooter’s apartment to realize that he was going to kill people that night, and he was going to be successful, regardless of the tool he chose to use. So, as long as people like THAT continue to live and breathe amongst us, people like ME are going to take whatever peaceful, responsible steps we deem necessary to ensure, or at least improve the chances of our families’ safety. Why don’t the blood-dancing imbeciles amongst us stop attempting to pin the blame on people who had nothing to do with this shooting, and let us take care of our own lives without their petty authoritarian interference? Evil DOES exist in this world. You can deny it all you want, but you better have a plan of action when it surprises you by showing up, or you and yours are going to be eaten.
