Today, the Violence Policy Center (VPC) released the latest update to Concealed Carry Killers, an online resource that provides examples of non-self defense killings by private citizens legally allowed to carry concealed handguns in public. Overall, Concealed Carry Killers documents 506 incidents since May 2007 in 36 states and the District of Columbia, resulting in the deaths of 679 people.

They have basically updated their old report by adding new pending cases, some that went guilty and removing those pendings that went not-guilty or determined to be self-defense. Lots of accidental shootings and suicides to inflate the count.
Basically, a fresh shovel-full of the same manure.

Chicago is currently at 729 shot and wounded, 130 killed and they still have a few weeks to go.
Illinois in general, and Chicago in particular, are the gun-grabbers dreams.
Is that this year or this month?
That’s lower than I expected given it’s Chicago.
It’s 130 since august, 360 since the beginning of the year, 420 homicides total.

I wanted to know how many unjustified police shootings there are every year. That is hard to find. One news report indicates that since 2007 there were over 500 homicides by police that were un reported in crime statistic – suggesting that they may have been unjustified and swept under the rug.

Looking for murders committed by police yields more results than I can count. I did find an article that covers the stats on how police are 3x more likely to murder than CCW permit holders.

Of course, this makes me very glad that the VPC believes that only police should have guns, because they are so much more trustworthy than the rest of us /sarc/.

Automotive accidents due to lack of sleep kill more than 24,000 Americans every year.
That’s right. Loss of sleep kills almost as many Americans every year as total firearms, and if you exempt suicides(as we like to), it kills 20% MORE Americans.
That’s about an 8% fatality rate, since sleeplessness is responsible for more than 200,000 automotive accidents every year.
