Now they are scrambling and praying for a warm winter.

Germany is restarting another coal-fired reserve power plant next week as the country tries to save up its gas supplies for the coming winter.

The Heyden plant in Petershagen, near Hanover in northern Germany, is scheduled to return into service from August 29 until the end of April, operator Uniper said on Monday.

With a capacity of 875 megawatts, Heyden is one of the most powerful coal-fired power plants in Germany. It started operation in 1987.

Germany plans to phase out coal-fired power generation by 2038 at the latest. However, the war in Ukraine and the resulting disruptions to the energy market are causing some plants to be temporary reactivated.

More coal-fired plants that had been placed in reserve are set to restart in the coming weeks. The government says this will allow gas storage facilities to be filled as Germany copes with reduced flows from Russia.

I don’t feel pity for them. They can freeze for all I care.

  1. We were just talking about this this am. The “model” euro country the libtards point to… goin green never looked so good hey?

  2. Oh by the way, German coal is low grade “Brown Coal” which burns dirtier than other grades of coal. But to use the higher grade low-sulfur coal, they would have to modify their power plants, and import coal from the U.S.

    1. That is incorrect. “brown coal” is still in use but neither elusively nor in the majority.
That was the case in the GDR but that was over 30 years ago.

      1. Ok I’ll accept I’m out of date a bit. I do remember when Angela Merkel shut down the German nuclear industry following the Fukushima accident, with the idea that wind and solar would pick up the slack. When that didn’t happen, industry news outlets reported that Germany was restarting mothballed “brown coal” power plants to meet the demand for power during the winter. The implication being that the available coal was basically brown coal. I appologize if I assumed similar condition today.

  3. Careful not to confuse the government with the people.

The government was warned decades ago that this exact situation would happen.
They choose poorly and the media and scores of useful idiots helped them.

      1. So I guess you guys choose Biden?

You can only vote for the party – you cannot downvote. The big parties have the lowest percentage of voters in history, the majority does not want to be ruled by them. They simply form coalitions and have enough votes to form a government. Merkel was notorious for that, Scholz is following her lead.

The problem is in the system but the people profiting from the system are the ones writing the rules. Sounds familiar?

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
