The House on Friday passed one of the first House-Senate conference reports, or final agreements, filed this session. Senate Bill 2394, which originally only reduced fees for concealed carry permits, in its final version includes language to allow concealed carry of a gun in “a purse, bag, handbag, satchel or other similar bag or briefcase or fully enclosed case.”
The Senate is expected to approve the agreement and send it to the governor.
“Most ladies don’t want to carry a gun on their hip for the world to see,” said House Judiciary Chairman Andy Gipson, R-Braxton. “Men may, but ladies may not.”
Gov. Phil Bryant said he will “absolutely” sign the bill into law, and noted his wife, Deborah, might find it handy for carrying her Ruger .380.
“She’s a darned good shot,” Bryant said

There we go, a totally sexist bill. Whatever happened to Equal Rights? This is clearly and Anti-Male bill 😀
As silly as it may seem, it shows the importance of reading and knowing the process of how the laws of your state are made. And also shows that sometimes “good enough” is an advancement that should not be impeded by the silly demand of “Perfect.” Mississippi tried to get total permitless carry, but it did not congeal in this session, maybe for next year but still one step forward was taken and that cannot be dismissed.
No Compromise is just another way of saying “We don’t get shit done.”

Personally, I like the idea of putting a (holstered) handgun in the side-facing “laptop” pouch of an otherwise-normal backpack. It’d be only slightly different from drawing from the 6 o’clock “small-of-back” carry position.

How else would one carry a gun if it is not open or concealed on person?
Was there a state law that required a gun be kept in the manufacturer’s packaging as it shipped from the factory? Why not carry it in an old shoebox, a leather sack, backpack, or golf club bag?
Not read into the particular law, but in Florida you can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon by just having it in a bag and walking from your car parked outside to the inside of your home, specially if you do so in public and/or common areas. You have to understand that many weapons laws are not one smooth document written at once, but a quilt of additions and subtractions done over the years. Contradictions and weird stuff will happen.
Here in Washington State, it is illegal for a CCW holder to carry a loaded, concealed firearm anywhere other than on his person. That means when I go to the gym, and I’ve thrown my gat into my gym bag, and then throw the bag into the back seat of my car, I am violating the law. Seeing that so many women who carry do so by putting their guns in their purses, and that when they get into cars they separate their purses from their bodies (as I do with my gym bag), I’d like to know “How many women have been charged with violating this law because their guns were in purses separated from their persons?” Probably none, I’d wager. Stupid law. If I have a CCW, what does it matter where I carry my firearm? If I’m not to be trusted with a concealed firearm, why was the permit issued to me?
