NGVAC Silencers

The idea of silencers being used by the criminal element during Prohibition is more of a Hollywood tale than actual fact. Silencers went into the NFA registry for one main reason that this NGVAC follower hit by accident in his mocking reply :

NGVAC Silencers 3

Remember we are right smack in the middle of the Depression and the Powers That be did not want common folk to go out there and kill the King’s deer (and other critters) to feed their families. The viability of a pistol as a “killing instrument” for a mob enforcer is because it can be easily hidden and easily retrieved in order to do the deed. Adding a foot of pipe at the end of the Smith And Wesson Model 10 revolver (Most common sidearm of the time if I am not mistaken) makes no sense, plus a lot of the noise from revolvers come from the cylinder gap.

Enjoy the comments of the thread. There are some really loonies flying that flag.

  1. Also, who cares. The depression Era gangsters stole their military guns, or simply hired the local PD to conduct thier hits.

The NFA would have stopped NOTHING,!!!

  2. Do their supporters travel on the short bus?
“I can’t think of any reason you’d want to quiet a loud noise, except eeevillll!”

  3. Looking at the comments, we are from two different planets. Their criticism though comes from profound, painful ignorance. We have facts, they have emotions and boy do they FEEL!

They feel hatred and wish death upon us. Funny, I just want to be left alone with my rights intact.

  4. The NFA initially was to be an attempt at a total de facto ban of privately-owned firearms in this country. Every gun sold was to be registered and a $200 tax assessed. From the lowliest revolver to the biggest rifle, this was supposed to be a way to circumvent the Second Amendment.

The most the old-timey antis could get was the de facto (at the time, since $200 was a lot of scratch back then) ban of SBRs, SBS, suppressors, and machine guns.

Now, the NFA has gradually been weakened, since $200 isn’t a huge deal if you are shelling out much more than that for the item in question. The onerous part is the paperwork and the wait time.

Getting suppressors off of the NFA is a huge first step to dismantling the whole thing. The way I visualize it, suppressors will be non-NFA items, albeit with a $200 tax still attached to them, to be paid at the point of sale, much like when you pay the gasoline or cigarette tax.

  5. On principle I support this bill. In real life, I’ll go broke buying cans if I don’t have to go through the NFA paperwork for each one.

  6. In the (mostly) gun free utopia of the UK that gun grabbers love to refer to, silencers are readily available, and considered the polite way to shoot.

  7. I know I’m an old fart, and many people see it as efficiency, but when I see someone using “u” instead of “you”, “ur” for “your/you’re” and “Y” for “why”, the argument they’re trying to make goes straight out the window. Rather than seeing their argument, all I see is a meme.

    1. Nobody who takes conversation seriously ever uses a single letter in place of a word unless they’re really skimping for space, and they don’t take people who do seriously. A statement which isn’t worth using whole words to make isn’t a statement worth making.

  8. They really want to kill us, or rather, have someone do their bidding. They seem to be projecting what their behavior would be if armed with a suppressed firearm. Their barbarity is almost surpassed by their ignorance; they watch a Hollywood movie and believe it to be a representation of reality. They do not care that in the real world, suppressors are more akin to a car’s muffler; less noise is not no noise.

I for one, would like to preserve what hearing I have left (C5’s and C17’s are loud).

  9. I have never seen so many negative people until I started with the anti’s,there are simply against pro-life,not just pro-gun.There life has to be so miserable, they want to bring everyone down,I think we found our reason for the rise in mental illness.

  10. Anyone who does not support any part of the Bill of Rights is free to emmigrate to a country they will feel safe in. If you wish to change an Ammendment, contact your state representative. There is a legal process to follow. You only agitate by trying to work outside of this legal process thereby abridging our rights. If you don’t like firearms, don’t buy one. A firearm is only a consumer product. It is the hard heart that kills.
