An armed passenger stopped by TSA last week received concierge-style service from the Orlando Sanford International Airport Police Department.

Rather than arrest the man Friday, as is customary at the larger Orlando International Airport, cops allowed Michael Deegan to catch his flight to Ohio and held the loaded .38-caliber revolver for him while he was away.

On Monday evening, Deegan returned from Columbus and retrieved his gun. He headed home to Fort Pierce without criminal charges, according to interviews and records.

“There appears to be no nexus to terrorism and this report is for informational purposes only,” police wrote. “There was no disruption of airport activities due to this incident.”

via Sanford airport holds passenger’s gun rather than arresting him – tribunedigital-orlandosentinel.

Not to be confused with the Orlando International Airport that will have no issue taking you to the Feds and keeping your gun.

Now, if we could make this contagious…..

  1. LinkedIn shows four Orlandoians with that name, one of them is a “Security and Investigations Professional”, one security officer match in Ft Pierce is a former corrections officer. Surely he recieved equal treatment under the law.

    1. They’d be overburdened by the amount of knives confiscated by TSA from LEO/Military. Granted giving up that lone 9mm that was at the very bottom of the bag is a no-brainer, but asking such a facility to hold your GLOCK because you forgot all about it?

Yeah. That’s gonna be some hefty storage fees.

  2. What? Common sense gun law and enforcement in the same location; how refreshing. Please take note of what common sense looks like mommies demand, your master does not worry about this using the privet jet.

  3. I’ve flown out of Sanford Orlando a bunch of times and I’ve always found TSA and the PD to be VERY professional and nice. Now OIA on the other hand….

  4. The bigger category airport, the bigger jerks PD and TSA become. I know this by hand personally, even though me and fellow coworkers try our hardest to be professional, that ‘asshole creep’ comes downhill steadily.

And this is why I play videogames.

  5. Funny thing– It is contagious… In states that don’t have gun phobias. Unless the passenger is belligerent, PD will almost always let them fly here in AZ.
