“The only kind made by white labor”

This particular ad appeared in the Arizona Weekly Citizen on July 16, 1892.  It also appeared in Idaho, New Mexico, Montana and Utah in the same year.

I jumped one year back and found this version in the Tombstone Epitaph. Yes, that Tombstone.

I took a quick peek at 1890 and I found the ad again, so this is not a one time thing. I could not find ads for Levy’s in any other newspapers of the era that are recorded with the Library of Congress, but I only looked at three years.

The things you find when you dig through history.

Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

  1. Considering the times, and the location of Levi Strauss’s factory, I suspect they were not so obliquely referring to Chinese workers rather than Black or Hispanic. Still it would be fun to watch the corporate spokes-critter defend this in an era where people go back to your high school year book for pictures of you in black face.

  2. Since we know the woke will never forgive, and descendants are answerable for racial sins, I think it’s time to make an example out of an evil corporation.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
