Dog shoots owner in Florida.

Gregory Dale Lanier, 35, of Frostproof, Fla., and his dog were in his truck Saturday when his dog kicked a loaded gun on the floor, shooting him in the leg, the Highlands Today newspaper reported.

Lanier told authorities he didn’t know his .380 pistol was loaded.

Sebring police have ruled the shooting accidental, and Lanier was not seriously injured, according to the Highlands Today.

Either the dog was a Beggin’ Strips fiend or found out they were on their way to the vet for a neutering. I am inclined to go with the second option and the shooting to be ruled as justified.

On a serious note: If you are not carrying, keep your guns in a secure manner, preferably in a locked box if you are not planning to have it with you.

Stupid hurts.

Funny you mention that…

NGVAC dangerous
Author Mark Karlin rants in his article filled with a lot of $5 words, but the title is halfway right: We are interested in being seen as dangerous and it is for Self-Defense.

The Gun Control extremists/fiends/radicals/extremists (I can use a thesaurus too!) have formed this mental picture that self-defense is only applied if a gun is shot and a bullet impact on a bona-fide bad guy and kills him. This narrow field of vision leaves a wide field in which to accuse us of all the problems of our modern world. They fail to comprehend the criminal mind and the fact that if they see somebody that looks dangerous or willing to put up deadly resistance, they will choose somebody else. In the immortal words of somebody wiser than me: “If you look like food, you will be eaten” so yes, we don’t mind exuding the appearance of danger if it leads to a human hyena passing us over for fairer morsels. Contrary to the Antis’ expectation we ain’t looking for a fight, we are just looking to remain safe and sound.

But what really ticks them off is that political predators also fear us. It is hard to impose the “guidelines for living as we dictate” of the “Superior Intellects” when the intended recipients can say “No thank you” and mean it.

We are wildcards. We do not listen to their “reason.” We refuse to “have a conversation” where they do all the talking and expect we do all the submission. And worse, we are not intimidated easily so their thugs have no power to change minds via violence.

Back in September of 2011, Longshoremen in Portland were protesting with “signs” like this:

Yes, that is a baseball bat and yes, those are cops in the background. If I am not mistaken, the use of that “sign” against somebody in any state of the Union would be considered attack with a deadly weapon. SEIU thugs are no strangers when using intimidation and violence against those who have a different political view than the ones dictated by their masters. But you see, they must become polite and play by the rules when violating the “addressing of grievances” by the use of brute force may result on violence visited upon them in return. And like in the case of the 1199 SEIU which planned to “attend” a Gun Owner’s rally at Albany, NY against the Cuomo overreaching New Gun Control Law, they decided not to go on with the counter protest. They cannot play well with others in an even field; I don’t think they even know how to do so.

Michael Bane had it right when he said that the Gun Control “advocates” hate us. We represent an independence of thought and acts they long relinquished for the “safety” provided by a benign State and they want us to also toe the line because misery loves company. But above all they hate us because we are a palpable reminder they are spiritually, morally and mentally emasculated.

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

ALERT! Marion Hammer needs us — and We Need Marion Hammer

Got this email. She is probably the most feared woman in Florida politics and she is in our side. When everybody was cringing and trying to stay away from defending Stand Your Ground in Florida, she came out swinging her awesome ninja sword/lightsaber…. OK, just herself stood proud und loud beating the tide of opposition.

——————————————————————————–

Marion Hammer is up for re-election to the Board of Directors of the NRA. It’s our turn to step up to the plate (as she has done for us consistently over the years) and support her. Marion has been unyielding in her support of the Second Amendment at both the state and national levels.

If you are a voting member (Life Member or have been an annual member for 5 consecutive years) your ballot to elect NRA Board Members will be in your March 2013 issue of your NRA magazine.

Check your March issue for your ballot and be sure to vote. Vote for Marion Hammer — it is not necessary for you to vote for anyone else — BUT — you need to Vote for Marion Hammer. We need her representation on the NRA Board.

If you have a concealed carry license, thank Marion. Her efforts led the way to “shall issue” licenses nationwide.

The right to protect yourself without fear of criminal prosecution for armed self-defense? Thank Marion .

The award winning and nationally recognized Eddie Eagle gun safety program for children, again, thank Marion — she was the creator and driving force behind it.

You can shoot at an outdoor range without fear of a state or local government agency zoning the range out of existence because Marion was there to push through the Range Protection Act.

Remember Bill Clinton’s anti-gun sweetheart Sarah Brady? It was Marion Hammer who went toe to toe with her while the media fawned over Brady and tried to give her a free hand in spreading falsehoods about lawful gun owners.

At the state and federal level, Marion has stood on the front line insuring the Second Amendment of the US Constitution and our rights under the Second Amendment remain secure.

Marion has never viewed being on the NRA Board as something for a resume. She dedicates herself daily to unselfishly working to insure that our rights as lawful gun owners remain inviolate.

I have known and worked with Marion Hammer for almost 40 years. There is no one I know who has dedicated so much of her soul to protecting us from the gun-grabbers.

Perhaps today more that ever, we need to show our support for her hard work. I urge you to get out your March issue of The American Rifleman, The American Hunter or America’s First Freedom, if you are a voting members, pull out the official ballot that is attached inside and vote for Marion Hammer.

As we have seen in recent political elections complacency can lead to harmful results. Please vote for Marion Hammer for the NRA Board of Directors. Below is a list of some the other accomplishments Marion has achieved for NRA members and all law-abiding gun owners.

~ Nation’s first “shall issue” Right-to-Carry law
~ Firearms Preemption to Stop Local Gun Control
~ Right-to-Carry Reciprocity law

Limatunes’ Range Diary: Abuse, Abduction, Self Defense

Allow me to blunt with why it has affected me: I was restrained, abducted, beaten and raped.

No Hesitation Targets: The controversy.

Law Enforcement Targets Inc. came up with a series of targets under the banner “No Hesitation” representing several armed individuals that were not, shall we say the traditional image of Hollywood’s bad guys. Cries of ZOMG! ensued.

no hesitation

OK, now do me a favor and do this mental exercise: Describe what your future attacker looks like. I’ll give you some time while humming theme from Final Jeopardy and remember, you are betting all the marbles here. You got it? Perfect mental picture? You ready to talk to a police sketch artist and come up with a composite? Good. Now, the bad news, that person ain’t gonna be the one attacking you as he probably does not even exist. More bad news: If you design your self-defense strategy around just looks, you will end in prison, the hospital or the morgue*.

When and if you make the decision to defend yourself, it must be done because of the actions of the person against you not if they look menacing or dress in a way that is associated with the criminal element or wears hair in a particular manner, has lots of body art or any other superfluous detail.

So, who do I shoot is not important at all (that is if you wan to remain breathing on this planet) but rather when do I shoot so, I am gonna refer to Marty Hayes “What Every Gun Owner Needs to Know About Self Defense Law for the answer. In order to properly defend a self-defense situation, three things must be present: Ability, Opportunity and Jeopardy. Does the attacker have an object capable of inflicting death or great bodily harm?  Is the attacker near enough to make good on the threat to inflict death or grave bodily harm? Do you perceive that the attacker intended to carry out the threat? If these criteria are met, why should we add the burden of trying to decide if the looks or physical condition are some sort of factor that decreases the risk? We as Gun People celebrate when the weak, the elderly or the infirm successfully defend themselves against criminals, yet we refuse to believe that criminals can be anything other than healthy people, 17 to 25 years of age only. Most regular folks can push and kick the hell out of an unarmed junkie who is basically strung out, underfed and weak. But the same junkie with a gun asking to empty your pockets or else, becomes a real threat to life and we would not hesitate to shoot in self-defense.

Let’s make it simpler: If when you look at the target you see age, condition, infirmity, gender or anything else but the gun pointed at you, you lost. Remember once again, our only “duty” is to make it home alive.

Ready for Straw Man & reductio ad absurdum.

* Credit for this mental exercise goes to Clint Smith as quoted in a gun TV show which I cannot remember now.
