Along with Miguel, we are relocating too.
New job, more money, better opportunities.
The good news is the housing market in Huntsville is insane so we might have the opportunity to cash out quite well in equity.
So the wife and I are prepping the house for listing pictures and showings.
This means patching, painting, and cleaning.
I was reminded of this scene from Pulp Fiction.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. We just have to cover up enough crayon marks, piddle stains, and all the little dings and nicks that having two kids and two dogs do to a house long enough for some potential buyers not to notice them during an open house and we only have a few days to do it.
We are getting painters for the inside and a steaming service for the tile floor and bathrooms. But whatever I can do ahead and save us some money, I am doing.
Can I get your wife to call my wife and tell her we don’t need to paint every room in the house and remodel the kitchen when the average days on market is 2 and the list-to-sales ratio is 110%?
I once heard a comedian say “moving is worse than going to prison. You want to end crime, have the judges tell the criminals, ‘you aren’t going to prison you got to move.'”
Given what the market sounds like, probably not worth getting it staged.
But … What’s prompting the move? Details, man, details! We care!

When we moved out of a house we had lived in for years I was slightly sad because it was in the best shape it had been in for years after we caught up several years of deferred maintenance and cleared a lot of clutter. Then we moved two more times and I still have boxes I haven’t unpacked.
That’s the thing, isn’t it?
You need to move, so you do all the painting, spackling, flower bed work, et cetera ad nauseum; and then you go, “Wow! This place looks GREAT! We should have done this a long time ago. And now … we’re moving.”
I moved 4 times in 5 years and there were boxes that hadn’t been touched since the first move. After the last move they got opened to make sure there wasn’t any SSE worthy bits in the box and went to curb.
We’re not moving anytime soon, but my goal before the year is out is to have it so that all of my stuff could fit in my truck and small uhaul trailer with space remaining.
