It makes me sick that a supposedly legal genius is so disconnected from reality that does not understand the deadly lag between an initial call to 911, specially since he was sitting at the bench when cases of No Duty To Protect were brought to the Supreme Court. He was present during Warren v. DC, DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services and Castle Rock v. Gonzales, and to say that a cell phone to call the cops is better for self than a gun speaks volumes about his level of isolation from the reality of the country he was sworn to serve.
John Paul Stevens was substituted by Elena Kagan when he retired who already wants to revisit (and strike down) Heller v. DC. So, tell me again that it does not matter who we vote for in November. Yes, I don’t know who will Romney appoint in case of SCOTUS vacancy, but we sure as hell know what kind of judge Obama will select.
I choose to believe he was advocating gun TRAINING. And he’s totally right. That Glock(or in my case, S&W 686P) isn’t going to do you any good if you don’t get out and practice with it occasionally. Sure, bullets cost money. Peace of mind?

Stevens dissented on both Heller and McDonald. Plus the quote is from a luncheon he attended sponsored by the Bradys. It is safe to assume he thinks you are better off disarmed, training or not.
I wasn’t saying he was pro-gun, I was just saying I choose to interpret the quote in a pro-gun way. Clearly we’re better off without him making the decisions. Especially when we have the opportunity to twist his quotes like that 😀

I honestly wish people would think before electing people to office who thought he was a good idea for our judicial system, but clearly he shows just how little concern too many people have for our country.
