NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Nashville realtor wants to know why the system failed the community after he was carjacked on the job.
Elliott Thomas went to show a home to a client last week off Porter Road in East Nashville. When he looked at his phone for the lockbox code, he was approached by a teenager who demanded his SUV.
“Just hearing the aggression in his voice, I was like ‘I just got to do this,’ so I threw my keys, and after I threw my keys he told me to run, and so I turned around in this direction and ran towards the back of this development,” Thomas said.

‘I was staring death in the face’ Realtor who was carjacked says system failed (newschannel5.com)

So exactly what was the failure? The offender is a recurrent criminal who has been declared mentally incompetent several times and he was let go when he hit 18 years of age.

Gooch-Blacksmith was in trouble by the age of 10. At the age of 13 he stole a car and went into the Department of Children’s Services custody. While in their care he committed other crimes involving a shooting and robbery.

This is not the first time any of us has heard of a similar case. We know of predators old and young and we have learned to prepare for that as much as we can. Did the system fail? Failing is about half the default for the system and nobody wants to deal with the issue of violent criminals with mental issues because it is a hard thing to do. Blaming gun owners/systemic racism/global warming/etc. is easier and make for cooler tweets and TV soundbites for politicians.

The system is not designed to fail, but it is designed to weather,  and “profit” the fails rather than fix them. As long as fails exist, they can sell the idea they are needed to fix them and perpetuate the job.

And the victim failed for believing the System can be fixed and keep him safe.

  1. “They” don’t care about you, or your safety. What “they” want is peace and quiet.

A hard lesson, that I picked up in school.

  2. I think it was Arizona where there was a problem with serial rapes of realtors. Rapist uses a fake name to arrange a showing in an empty house and ambushes the realtor.

Then something like 50% of realtors started carrying guns to showings and the rapes stopped.

    Funny how that works.

    1. A realtor who lives in my neighborhood uses the buddy-system when she shows an out-of-town or rural house. Several of the realtors in her group take turns going with others, just in case. And I suspect she carries, but that’s not something one asks. Need to know and all that.

  3. Makes me curious who Mr. realtor has been voting for? Did he cheer on BLM and the rioting? Did he support defunding?

    1. Annyone who blames the “system” for thier problem is most likely a whiney liberal taught to blame others for problems. Knuckledraggin rednecks like me laugh uproariously at spineless pussies like this.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
