Remember I was having issues with my 10/22 during Appleseed? It eventually stopped extracting and I quit? Rather than screwing around,  I ordered a Volquarsten extractor with spring and just for the hell of it, a new firing pin plus an extend mag release for the second 10/22. Yesterday I finally got around to mess with the sticks and started with the simplest one: the mag release which took me all of 5 minutes including a sip or two of coffee.

Then, being the smart guy I am, I went over this video to make sure I did not screw up

So I sat down, disassembled the rifle ad when I got to the bolt, I noticed something curious:

There was no extractor, spring or plunger in the gorramed bolt!

How that happened? No idea. Where are the parts? My best guess in a range in Chapel Hill, TN.

So I ordered and new extractor plunger and closed shop for the day.

Oh well.

  1. I noticed on the video that it said the extractor and spring came with the kit…
But you said all of the pieces were missing including the plunger, you might wanna order a new plunger if that doesn’t come with the extractor kit.

Would be rather frustrating to start the repair and find out you are still missing a part.

It didn’t say in the video about the advantages for the different extractor kits. If you know of any significant difference between them give us an update.

  2. Straight blowback actions will often function without an extractor since the gas pressure is often enough to eject the spent case. I found out the hard way with a Ruger SR22 when I could shoot an entire steel challenge stage but couldn’t clear at the end because the extractor was clogged with crud so I could shoot but couldn’t manually eject by cycling the slide

    1. Was going to say exactly that. Several blowback guns don’t even have extractors (like the Beretta Tomcat/Bobcat pistols and their Taurus clones).

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
