This is a poll from a small, mostly highly Liberal Facebook group I belong.

And yes, I understand the presumption of innocence is for the courts, blah-blah, but what we are seeing is that any kind of moral measure, any shred of political decency is lost.  Is simple accusation is enough to ruin your life?

And you know what comes after: the taking of your life.

Do you know that rifle ammo and magazines you have been wanting to buy? You may want to get started ASAP.

  1. Thing is, presumption of innocence isn’t just for the courts. Without it, there’s no reason not to just make spurious accusations. So in turn, it’s quite literally the basis for a civil society.

  2. It’s not just for the courts anymore. This is about your whole life.

Get expelled from college, lose a scholarship, get marked so you can never go back to a good school again, all on an accusation.

Lose your job, your security clearance, become unemployable by a company that wants a good reputation, go bankrupt lose everything.

Sure, you didn’t go to jail but your life as a productive member of society is over.

When the stakes are that high, the bar to clear should be that high as well.

  3. I’ve always felt that in Amerika, you are guilty until you can prove your innocence. The burden of proof is on you. Justice ain’t blind……
