This was sent by somebody I am having a small discussion in Twitter.  Rather than consider the possibility he had been purposely misinformed, he offers a link of a commentary making an unsupported statement.

He is the reason why I always try to include the original source of any bill or article and urge my readers to check it themselves. You know some idiot in the future is going to go with that headline and decide it would be fun to run over protesters because he was told by “reliable” media he can get away with it. This is the same crap news organizations and editorial boards pulled after the passage of Stand Your Ground and let to several idiots to be “enjoying” extended vacations at assorted prisons in Florida and other states.

Trust nobody’s interpretation of law, not even me:

ALWAYS READ THE ORIGINAL TEXT.

(PS: OK, maybe we listen to a lawyer well respected on the issue like we do Andrew Branca.)

  1. You also need to do that to avoid being misled by stupid or dishonest politicians. For example, if you get your firearms handling training from Joe Biden, you’re in for a world of hurt.

  2. My sister’s boyfriend (an alleged libertarian) does this. We were discussing the 2A and he got all sorts of focused on ‘regulated’. He prefers the modern usage of ‘gov’t control’. I sent him links to Heller as well as various sources on the 18th century usage of it. He didn’t read a single one and then said my lack of response was because I was ‘hiding something’.

He didn’t want education, he wanted an argument. I just stopped responding at that point.

  3. Like my brother’s friend, an attorney. He lectured TDW-Mark II about “the gun show loophole”, even after being told that she had, 2 weeks prior, had her own self, purchased a rifle at a gun show.

And, he lives in Manhattan. And does not own a gun.

  4. Had a similar discussion about the National Debt. This individual was convinced that GWB started out with a surplus, and ran up a $10T debt. When I pointed out the White House and Treasury websites clearly indicated that Clinton left a $6T debt, their response was… well laughable.

“The respected journalists at Politico have their reputations and professional integrity on the line. I believe them, not your sources.”

Nope, you cannot educate some people.

  5. And this is why I don’t want the media putting out that Tennessee now has Constitutional Carry. There’s 7 limiting factors to our new permitless carry law. One of which is that you must be a resident of Tennessee. How many out-of-staters are going to be charged because they saw Constitutional Carry and thought that’s what it is? A friend in Kentucky (where they actually have Constitutional Carry) was planning on carrying here starting July 1st, when the law goes into effect, and we had to have a long talk about why that may not be a good idea for him. Language matters.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
