I am sure more than one has been getting the Internal Server Error 500 whatever message. I have been dealing with the Webhost and I learned a few things, most important is that the “Live Chat” people cannot fix crap and are probably working from home with a script. Sumbitch could find a problem with my site and swore it was all right.
I then placed a call to the Host’s Support and I managed to at least get somebody to find I was having issues and had no problem admitting he had to go one level up for checking. It seems the site has been drawing an excessive number of resources via robots and that triggers an automatic block/choke on the site which is why you sometimes can load (slow) and sometimes you get the error message.
I added the robot.txt file fix and I am on hold so I can report back to the host and have the clock/choke removed. I asked if this felt like an attack and the tech did say it could be very well that. I know I have pissed a lot of people through the years and I would not be surprised if I am being targeted, specially with all the crap we have coming for Florida against Gun Rights and Self Defense.
My apologies and I am trying to get this fixed ASAP.
They wouldn’t attack if you weren’t making a difference and/or embarrassing them.
HostGator sucks. Since I switched to siteground (no affiliate) I haven’t had any problems.
If robots.txt helps, then it’s a web server issue, because a public web server should be able to handle the load from compliant search engines.
If it’s actually an attack by malicious actors, robots.txt won’t help, because it is the web equivalent of a “gun free zone” poster by the door — honest parties will comply, dishonest ones won’t.
