So no, he is not even white, but if we are going with the media Narrative lately, every mass shooting has been enacted by a White Supremacist.

Police sources identified the gunman in a standoff at a Tioga apartment building that left six police officers injured as Maurice Hill, 36, a Philadelphia man with a lengthy history of gun convictions and of resisting attempts to bring him to justice.

Public records show that he has been arrested about a dozen times since turning 18, and convicted six times on charges that involved illegal possession of guns, drug dealing, and aggravated assault. He has been in and out of prison; the longest sentence handed him came in 2010, when a federal judge gave him a 55-month term.

In North Philly standoff, alleged cop shooter Maurice Hill has a long criminal history

Something that we have forgotten to use in the fight against Gun Control is the absolute lack of Criminal Control.  How do you get six convictions for drugs and weapons and walk the streets a free man?

Hill also spent time in federal prison. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to federal firearms violations after he was caught with a Smith & Wesson .357 and later a Taurus PT .45 semiautomatic. His prior felony convictions should have barred him from owning those weapons. U.S. District Judge Paul S. Diamond sentenced him to four years and seven months in prison.

Although the sentence’s length apparently is common for first timers under the Federal guidelines of felons in possession, Hill is not one (6 prior firearm convictions) and should have been given 15 years under ACCA (the Armed Career Criminal Act of 1984.) So as we have seen before, somebody who should have been in prison, was out on the streets dealing drugs and shooting at cops.

But the blame will fall on us and the NRA because it is easier than actually do the work.

  1. This is sort of interesting as I had a request in to Miguel earlier this week looking for statistics on just this sort of thing.

A thinking liberal was asking me “What would gun rights activists say is the solution?” I responded with “Enforce current laws, make sure that career criminals don’t get slaps on the wrists and make sure that career criminals aren’t pleading out to lesser crimes.”

She was very surprised. I made the off hand statement that many crimes are committed by people “known to law enforcement” but they had not been punished.

She asked me to support my statements with facts or statistics. So I went looking. The best I could come up with was a link from our own @gunfreezone

    quoting: https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/fv9311.pdf

Page 13. You have the percentage of felons who admit having a gun. Find out how many felons were incarcerated and how many felons in total and adjust between the two

“In 2004, an estimated 16% of state prison inmates and 18% of federal inmates reported that they used, carried, or possessed a firearm when they committed the crime for which they were serving a prison sentence ”

Does anybody have sources for statics or raw numbers of:
    * Crimes committed with guns by people that were prohibited persons
    * Crimes committed with guns by people that had a history of plea deals
    * Crimes committed with guns by people that were repeat offenders (well known by law enforcement)

    1. You may want to ask over at Second City Cop. Actually, the Chicago Police Department recently began posting the information on how those arrested for gun crimes get prosecuted (or not). Apparently the CPD thinks violent criminals aren’t being punished and that’s driving much of the violence in Chicago.

But what do they know, right?

    2. I hoe you’re not devoting all this time and effort to change one liberal’s position on ANYTHING they “believe in “. Statistically speaking, you stand a better chance of being the first human history to walk the surface of Mars than getting a libby to abandon their left wing dogma pertaining to firearms.

  2. Not to sound like a Nazi here, but there are some people that will never contribute positively to society, due to their own actions. Important nuance there, if your own actions are the reason you are a waste of skin, what is the problem with culling them?

I am talking about death penalty here. Not some preemptive strike ala The Hunt.
A preponderance to violent criminal acts, and a life long history of lawlessness are the key. People like this will not ever be anything but a drain….. no worse than a drain on society, they are contrary to the tenets of a civilized society.

Of course, nothing of the kind should ever be implemented. As soon as we start declaring that some criminal is beyond redemption, the next step is genocide against a particular racial or ethical group.

    OK, forget what I said.

Bummer he did not accidentally fall down a flight of steps about 45 times on the way to the police car and break his neck.

    1. CBMTTek: “Bummer he did not accidentally fall down a flight of steps about 45 times on the way to the police car and break his neck.”

The fact that he was photographed walking to the police van, appearing relatively uninjured, is a testament to the professionalism of the officers there on that scene.

When I hear folks braying about “badged orcs”, I think of officers such as this. Or officers of my personal acquaintance who first respond to rural fires, in patrol cars. Or first respond to rural medical calls, performing initial care and initial size up, so EMS has a “heads up” regarding their run.

Certainly there are cops who need to be civilians, who need to be incarcerated. But tarring every cop with the brush of those who abuse the public trust is akin to generalizing about Muslims due to the actions of homicidal nutcakes, who happen to own Korans. Or describing all folks, who are of, what an old partner of mine used to term as “of the African persuasion”, as welfare sucking layabouts, or criminals, or cop shooters, simply due to the actions of a deranged/malsocialized few.

It is both factually incorrect, as well as presents the opportunity for the narrator who so speaks, to be seen as an idiot.

Which is a fact, about myself, that I seek to conceal.

  3. Another predictable outcome in the “War on Drugs”.

The police could have arrested him as he left the home, a block away. Instead, they sent armed and armored cops to raid the home serve the warrant while it was known to be occupied.

I saw a report in our local news this morning, claiming the guy was trying to protect his wife and kids, who were in the home when police raided. If true, it’s an understandable reaction, considering that SWAT raids have ended with flashbangs in cribs and house fires from the (highly-flammable) tear gas grenades.

Don’t get me wrong: it still doesn’t excuse firing on police officers. But it does make it more understandable from a “protect my family” point of view.

I still stand by the “arrest him a block away and THEN search the house” comment, though. That way he’s not in a “defend my home and family” mindset when that knock comes. (However, it does NOT justify militarized S.W.A.T. team budget expenditures, so of course no department will take this advice.)

    1. Remember The Branch Davidians? Lead by David Koresh. On the morning of the raid to serve a warrant on David for weapons violations, David was in town walking around and doing his business.

Instead of picking him up there, they waited till he was back on the compound and then besieged the compound. During that initial attack, 4 ATF agents were killed, 16 wounded and 6 Branch Davidians died. 76 more Branch Davidians died in the final assault on the compound 2 months later.

Maybe there would have been less loss of life if they had used your idea of arrest outside of the home?

  4. See we need Criminal control not gun control. 55 months is not long enough for a repeat offender. With his record he should have been given 3 strike and your out meaning the death penalty for being a chronic criminal. America needs to stop all the LIBERAL IDIOTS LIES and punish Criminals not the tax paying innocent people who are made to foot the bill for these criminals.

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
