HOUSTON — Just after closing around 2:30 Saturday morning, four armed men barged in at EJ’s Place demanding money.

Instead, a customer inside the bar, which is located on the 16500 block of Kuykendahl Road, pulled out his gun and started exchanging fire with the robbers. He shot and killed two of them while the other two ran. Once the heated exchange ended, the patron left, too.

Not a bad tale. Four guys with guns barging in a closing bar are not collecting for the Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s hospital and they were promptly frustrated by somebody who “always stays until closing to walk the female bartenders to their cars. The friend said the man would never start anything, but would always protect his friends. “

But there is a hitch to the story, a dose of Malum Prohibitum makes this case a twisted tale:

But a sign in the bar window clearly states it’s a felony to carry a gun inside. Under Texas law, even licensed carriers can’t have guns in bars. That could explain why the patron left.

And why suddenly everybody came down with a severe case of amnesia.

It is getting tiresome: Bad guys do not give two craps about the law and signage to do their deeds but good people must lay themselves open to crime because some legislative do-gooders  think they are stupid and cannot be trusted even when the evidence through decades now keep telling us the infamous shootouts that Concealed Carriers would start have never happened in jurisdictions where the laws are less idiotic.

So here it goes to Kemo Sabe: Get yourself a good lawyer because the angry mongrels will come nipping at hour heels soon enough.
