School shooting in Brazil I missed. March 13, 2019.

Eight people, including five schoolchildren, have been killed by gunmen who opened fire in a high school near São Paulo, before turning their guns on themselves when police arrived.

The two gunmen, ages 25 and 17, walked into the state school in Suzano, near São Paulo, around 9.30am on Wednesday, and opened fire while students were on a break.

The local police chief, Colonel Marcelo Salles, told reporters that the attackers were armed with a .38 revolver, a crossbow, a bow and arrows and also carried fake explosives. “In 34 years of service, I have never seen [an attack] with a crossbow. It is totally unthinkable,” he said.

Brazil school shooting: eight people killed, including five students

It happened three days ago during mom’s birthday, so I guess I was not really paying attention to the news.

I found out just now because I bumped into a surveillance video of the school lobby during the initial part of the attack.

One thing was left out of the narrative or downplayed in most news sources: The second attacker utilized what looks like a hatchet, to deliver a coup de grace to the downed victims and attack some of the students rushing to the street.

What makes this attack more disturbing than usual is the level of desensitization achieved by hatchet man. These are not rush killings on healthy human beings but deliberate chops on already wounded and unable to defend people. This is some evil predator-like behavior

I am not going to link the video, but I figure most of you know where to find videos of shit happening in Brazil.

If you still believe that truly evil assholes are not roaming the earth looking for victims,  you need to wake up.

PoliceOne – “The public must assume a role in their own defense.”

2. The public must assume a role in their own defense.
I’ve written about what I call the “third generation” of active shooter response, and this tragedy underscores my points. Regardless of where you are in the world, whether it be a synagogue in Pennsylvania, a church in Texas, or a mosque in New Zealand, the police will almost always be absent when the attacker strikes. Faith-based organizations, schools, workplaces and public venues must take an active role in their own security, and leave behind the fiction that the police will be able to protect them from evil during the initial minutes of an attack. The public must embrace target hardening, security protocols, emergency response training, security teams, medical training, emergency communications and armed defense preparations to ensure they can discourage attacks, deny access and defeat attackers prior to police response. In the live-streamed attack on the Masjid Al Noor Mosque, the attacker was on site for six minutes killing innocents and was able to escape and take his attack mobile, several minutes before police responded. Time is a precious commodity in attacks like these, and the killing is often done before the police have arrived. It’s no longer acceptable for the public to outsource their security to the police – they must take an active role in their own defense and defense preparations.

Rapid Response: 7 key takeaways from the New Zealand mosque attacks

We are laughed at all the time about “Good Guy” with a Gun and “When seconds count,  police is minutes away” but I think it is finally starting to set in the idea you are the only one responsible for your own safety.

Although Parkland hit us bad, specially in Florida, the total screw up of Broward’s Sheriffs Office, learning about No Duty to Protect and the report of the shooting pointing out the amazing failures by those who were supposed to have the welfare of children as priority made a lot of people realize how naked they really are out there. It is not like we have tons of people rushing to buy AR15s and take classes in First Aid, but I do detect a bit more of interest than usual. Nothing concrete, just a gut thing.

The landscape has changed and some are desperately clinging to the past in both expectations and laws. They are still in enough numbers to hurt us legislatively but we cannot let them win so be ready for the killers and those who would wants us to remain easy to victimize.

Alaska State Commission for Human Rights virtual signals itself into stupidity. UPDATE

It seems an officer with the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights took offense with a sticker and did something about it:

Wait, that was the least stupid thing they did. Please delight your eyes on the following pictures:

Yup, a sticker whose message they did not understand offended them so much that they left business cards with a  message that at it worse could be Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law or at lest conspiracy to do so.

Oh yes, the cards have their phone numbers and email addresses for the world to see. What the heck were they thinking? That the owner of the truck would cower and never think about posting the cards online? The dumb bastards doxxed themselves.

Later they issues a Non-Apology via Facebook that is not going well and they are getting bombarded for being basically Liberal idiots abusing power.

Rule #1 to get out of the hole: Stop digging.

UPDATE: Thanks to reader Henry D. for reporting that the Governor of Alaska was not amused and orders and investigation.

Good guy with a gun in New Zealand

I saw in the comments of Miguel’s post that there were reports of a good guy with a gun at the second Mosque shooting.

I did some searching and found this report from the New Zealand Herald.

Christchurch mosque massacre: 49 confirmed dead in shootings; four arrested – three men, one woman

A second shooting happened at a mosque in the Linwood area of the city.
One Friday prayer goer returned fire with a rifle or shotgun.
Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots around 1.45pm.
A well known Muslim local chased the shooters and fired two shots at them as they sped off.
He was heard telling police officers he was firing in “self defence”.
“They were in a silver Subaru,” he told police.

A review of the New Zealand Police Arms Manual shows that gun possession, especially for a handgun (that said, I don’t know what type of firearm the the local used) is limited to the home where the licensee is registered, a shooting club, or for a long gun, for a legitimate use such as hunting.

You can’t just drive around with a rifle in the trunk of your car because you have a gun license.

Also, there is this from the New Zealand Police.

“Everyone is justified in using, in the defence of himself or another, such force as, in the circumstances as he believes them to be, it is reasonable to use.” (Section 48 of the Crimes Act 1961.)

This means you are allowed to defend yourself from attack, but use your common sense. The idea is to defend yourself, not to cause injury or get revenge. If you use unreasonable force, you are committing a crime.

Your first concern should always be for your own safety and that of others with you. Never take the law into your own hands or take unnecessary risks.

New Zealand, like many European countries, bans possession of every type of non-lethal self defense weapon, e.g. stun guns and pepper spray.

It is also made clear that self defense is not a legitimate reason for a gun license.

Being a commonwealth state, its laws are heavily shaped by British law and we all know how the British stand on self defense.

So a well known local shooting at two gunmen as the gunmen run away might very well not be self defense in New Zealand.

What kind of gun he had and why did he have it at the Mosque might also be very serious questions for him to answer.

The internet can “good guy with a gun” all it wants, but I have a feeling he is going to be asked a lot of uncomfortable questions about his gun by the New Zealand police.

Quote of the Day. Florida’s Guardian Program

Some school boards are finally getting in with the Florida Guardian program. I have no idea why each [articular place does it, but I figure most local Sheriffs have said they have neither the deputies nor the money to pay for what should be school responsibility.

A teacher friend of mine, military vet and shooter, tried to be a sheep wolf and asked to be included in the guardian Program. He was rejected because only active LEO or Military can apply if they are teachers.  He had a great line that indicates the absurdity of the situation:

“The state trusts the lunch lady, but not teachers.”

And that is all she wrote, folks.

Spare me your outrage

You can tell the anti-gun, intersectional Left is just giddy today.

They have 49 Muslim martyrs that they can use to bash Trump, the NRA, white people, and gun owners with.

It doesn’t matter that this guy did what he did in New Zealand, or that he seems to have the motivation of The Joker from The Dark Knight.  He just wanted to kick off something to see the world burn.

So it’s Trump’s fault.

Senator Blumenthal isn’t the only one.

But not just Trump’s, your’s as well, because you know… you are a white supremacist too.  It’s everywhere.

And how do we combat it?

Like the dehumanizing stereotypes and hysterical conspiracies Ilahn Omar and Rashida Tlaib keep throwing out that AOC has defended?

Speaking of dehumanizing stereotypes and hysterical conspiracies, Shannon Watts couldn’t help but contribute to the conversion.

Tentacles across the world.  I wonder where I saw that before…

Maybe Nazi Germany?

Or perhaps the Arab world?

So some radical asshole goes on a rampage for the explicit, stated purpose of stirring the shit pot.

And these people take his bait, hook, line, and sinker and you and I end up being the assholes blamed for this who are going to have to pay for it with our rights.

Fuck the shooter and fuck every politician and activist who did exactly what he wanted them to do.

These activists and politicians can say they are sad and outraged all they want but you can tell that the New Zealand shooter couldn’t have made their authoritarian hearts and happier if had had thrown them a party with cake and blowjobs.
