The Plantation Police Department said the man who fired a gunshot inside a Broward County Transit bus during a fight has turned himself in.
The shooting occurred Saturday at about 3 p.m. as the bus approached eastbound Broward Boulevard just west of Nob Hill Road.
Plantation police said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two passengers. Bendy Alcine, 38, was shot once and the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect, identified as Michael Porter, was arrested and charged with attempted premeditated murder.
An area of west Broward Boulevard and Nob Hill Road was temporarily shut down amid a manhunt involving a helicopter for the armed suspect, police said.
The victim was transported to Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Health Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Video Captures Violent Altercation Inside Broward County Transit Bus in Plantation

I saw in other news source that Mr. Porter warned Mr. Alcine that he was armed and would shoot him. Maybe that is why he is getting a charge of premeditated murder, but the escaping bit did not help him for sure.

  1. Ok, this brings up question. You’re in a situation, someone threatens then attacks you. You fire once and the attack stops. Is it temporary? If you stay in close proximity are you risking a second attack? Does he have friends nearby? Will some other good Samaritan mistake the situation and pull a gun on you?

Tactically you may want to unass the area, then call 911 and report it.

In that case, will leaving the scene automatically make you guilty of anything?

After watching the video I can see fleeing the bus as a normal reaction. Hopefully he’ll have a decent lawyer.

    1. IANAL
“If you stay in close proximity are you risking a second attack?”
You are the guy with the gun. If he attacks again after being shot, the guy was not in the right state of mind and that made him dangerous.

“Tactically you may want to unass the area, then call 911 and report it. ”
Which he did not do. He just fled making himself look guilty.

“After watching the video I can see fleeing the bus as a normal reaction.”
Normal if you have not planned ahead what to do in a case like that. And that will not absolve you from the responsibility to act properly.

” Does he have friends nearby? ”
This happened in a moving bus and nobody came forward. So ,no.

“Will some other good Samaritan mistake the situation and pull a gun on you?
Kinda hard to be shot by somebody else if you are the one screaming “CALL 911!”

      1. I realize the person in the bus didn’t call 911 like I suggested. I’m posing a hypothetical. If I’m getting beat all to hell on a bus and I’m forced to fire my pistol, I can see getting off the bus ASAP and then reporting it only when I’m in a safer location.

In any case, I can envision several scenarios where leaving the scene is the smart choice, and I don’t think that should be legally wrong as long as you report it as soon as possible.

I guess I’m just responding to your last sentence.
