A hit piece on Bob Owens from BearingArms.com came out in RawStory. Full of anger, very short on facts:
Donald Trump will join with his Republican colleagues Friday in addressing the National Rifle Association’s annual Institute for Legislative Action leadership forum. Bearing Arms, run by racist Bob Owens, is co-sponsor of the forum.
In October 2015, Owens suggested that “radical” Democrats will be hanged because they intend to “start a civil war” against Republicans and those who own guns, according toMedia Matters.
If that isn’t bad enough, Owens is most known for targeting the families of slain African-American youths Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis and Tamir Rice.
Just a few months after Martin was shot by George Zimmerman, Owens called him “a violent, drug-abusing thug who appeared to get off on hurting people” and “a semi-literate violent criminal.” He also slammed the upcoming musical about Martin’s life, saying that it would be “whitewashing a black heart” and which he called an attempt to “whitewash a thug’s death.”

Unless you are brain-dead or did not make your due diligence during the trial, Trayvon Martin was indeed a youthful criminal, screwing around with guns and doing drugs. There was even a report from the School’s Resource Officer where burglary tools and jewelry had been found in his backpack. And if you need any more confirmation on his character, while many cities had major demonstrations , well covered by the media, one small city is particularly absent: Miami Gardens, the hometown of TM and where he lived with his mom. You have to wonder why.
Just a year later, Owens went after Martin’s mother, saying that she had raised a “monster” and her support to abolish Stand Your Ground laws, like the example cited by a juror explaining Zimmerman’s acquittal, was really more about her own self-promotion.
Hmmm… wasn’t TM shipped to live with his father because Sabrina Fulton could not deal with his bad behavior? I seem to recall that being mentioned plenty times. Oh well, memories can be selective when writing hit pieces.
Owens declared a year later, “good people … will arm themselves against violent young predators like Trayvon Martin” because “any society that hopes to survive simply has no choice.”
And this is shocking because….?
After Jordan Davis was shot and killed, his mother, Lucy McBath, became an activist fighting Stand Your Ground laws. Owens claimed, “she has become radicalized, and now travels the nation attempting to strip law-abiding citizens of their most basic natural right as a human being, the right [to] bear arms for self-defense.”
Hey, I lambasted McBath not too long ago, how come I did not get accused like Bob? That is just racist!
The language in the Stand Your Ground law was included as an instruction to the jury in the Trayvon Martin case against George Zimmerman. Before that law was enacted, jury instructions were drastically different.
The author just discovered that water is wet! Yes, the SYG was included in the jury instructions because it is a standard set of rules to be used in all homicide cases. Just check around how many cases have been thrown out because of bad or incomplete jury instructions. And as for the jury instructions changing after SYG was introduced…well, Duh!
But I saved the best for last: The Comments! Here are some samples:

Add some white make up, red noses and we have a train car full of clowns.
Okay, that is a pretty good slice of the difference between conservatives and liberals.

Wow. Just Wow. This hit piece, and the “logic” of the commentators are astounding. What an amazing echo chamber you all live in.
Is there any actual, you know, evidence, of this racism? Calling Trayvon Martin a young thug is a statement of observable fact. The fact of the matter is (supported by a trial by jury, where actual, you know, FACTS came out) that Zimmerman was attacked by Martin, and Zimmerman was forced to defend himself as his head was being bashed into the sidewalk by this young fine gentleman you so bravely defend.
I hate to tell it to you, and I know you don’t want to hear it, but what you refer to as stand your ground has long been common law principle. In my state, even without the dramatic new statute and label, that a person does not have an obligation to retreat if he is in a place he has a legal right to be and is acting legally has been jury instruction and law for decades. As it has in most places.
At the end of the day, civil rights are winning. All 50 states have some form of legal carry. 42 are “shall issue.” Guns are selling at a record pace (Thanks, Obama!). And yet, the blood in the streets that has so often been predicted has failed to materialize; anti-rights extremists predict doom and destruction with each expansion of gun rights, and they’ve NEVER been right. NEVER. Crime is at near 40 year lows, and continues to drop as a long-term trend. And this is a civil rights struggle, make no mistake about it. You don’t get to pick and choose the parts of the Constitution you like. Start picking off amendments, and they will come for the others. Governments trend toward tyranny, given the opportunity; just ask those nice people at the NSA picking through all your personal information.
Let’s see: the supporters of the 2nd Amendment here have history, popular support, precedent, Supreme Court decisions, statistical evidence, and experience on their side.
You have baseless accusations of racism, attacks on a person’s looks (what a tolerant and accepting bunch of hypocrites you all are! would that be acceptable in any other context?), and dick jokes.
No wonder we’re winning.

For me the most stupid comment is the white gun-owning Democrat who got all bent out of shape for the criticism of his party with their strong ideology of disarmament.
If you are a Democrat, I have a newsflash. The Democrat party is the one that is relentlessly pursuing gun control. It is a party plank. Deal with it when we call you out as being unAmerican, antiConstitutional despots or just useful idiots depending on your role.
Let’s sum this up.
If you are a liberal, and a black person ends up dead during a confrontation with someone that has lighter skin color, automatically, and without question, that black person is canonized as a saint.
Any criticism of the dead individual’s behavior while they were alive is racism.
Any disagreement with the above philosophy means you are a racist.
In a nutshell, here are some contemporary definitions to remember:
Racist – a white male who disagrees with and/or offends a liberal.
Right Wing Puppet – Anyone other than a white male who disagrees with and/or offends a liberal.
Don’t forget “Uncle Tom” — a black Right-Wing Puppet.
I love the collage of Facebook posts on this one, they really run the gamut – we’ve got multiple personal attacks based on raw, misdirected emotion, we’ve got the obligatory “small penis” remark, we’ve got people responding with threats.
Let me add that I don’t buy for a second that any of those people are actually gun owners. If I were a betting man, the smart money would say this is a “but I have black friends” type thing, where they are inserting the lie to attempt to discredit Bob and validate their own ad hominem attacks.
