Since there is no single definition for what qualifies as a school shooting, CNN set the following parameters:

-The shooting must involve at least one person being shot (not including the shooter).
-The shooting must occur on school property, which includes but is not limited to, buildings, athletic fields, parking lots, stadiums and buses.
-We included accidental discharge of a firearm as long as the first two parameters are met, except in instances where the sole shooter is law enforcement or a security officer.
-We included injuries sustained from BB guns, since the Consumer Product Safety Commission has identified them as potentially lethal.

There have been 15 school shootings in US so far this year

We went from the Massacre at Columbine to somebody popping a BB or somebody hitting a school bus passing by miles away from the school. The need to keep the drum beating has reached absurd levels of insincere editorializing.  This is not intended to bring awareness nor to find real solutions to school violence but to simply push a Gun Control agenda and their motto seems to be: “Truth be dammed till we win and then some.”

  1. I’m fine with including BB guns. On local (Boston) news, BB gun crimes are usually trivialized as “not a real gun”. The most recent case did get slightly more serious treatment, because the victim was hit in the face. Even so, they didn’t point out she could have been blinded or killed — the X-ray shows the pellet about an inch from her eye.
The problem isn’t just with “reporters” — I’ve never yet heard of any BB shooter being charged with attempted murder, as he should be.

    1. The Trace had a case of a “School Shooting” that ended up being kids playing with airsofts in their front yard but there was a school bus stop in front of the house.

  2. I notice there’s nothing there that says it has to be during school hours, which seems to be the anti-gunner’s standard. That means two adults getting into a fight at midnight will count as a school shooting if they happen to set foot on school property.

John Lott just released a study he did showing that since Columbine, and some states allowing teachers or staff to carry, “There has yet to be a single case of someone being wounded or killed from a shooting, let alone a mass public shooting, between 6 AM and midnight at a school that lets teachers carry guns”. That’s the way you do the study.

  3. Yeah, lets just redefine it to include slingshots and spitwads from a BIC pen like we used to do in the 60s. Finger rubber band gun also?

    1. And notice the one thing that they exclude: negligent discharges by incompetent cops. Can’t reveal that government employees are often more dangerous than law-abiding citizens.
