Starbucks is installing boxes for safe disposal of syringes in the bathrooms of certain locations, following workers’ reports of discarded needles and sometimes concerning conditions.

The coffee giant is exploring remedies after employees expressed fears about being pricked by uncapped needles and experiencing related health risks. Starbucks is testing solutions, including installing sharps-disposal boxes, using heavier-duty trash bags to prevent needle pokes, and removing trash cans from certain bathrooms.

Drugs and syringes have become such a problem in Starbucks bathrooms that the company is installing needle-disposal boxes in certain locations

I love the fact that Starbucks’s experiment in “inclusiveness” is exploding badly in their faces. However, the health risk to its employees is no joke. If I were a very disgruntled employee, I would begin a careful recording of daily occurrences and when I have about 3-4 weeks, contact OSHA and have an inspector come over to see how the company is not properly avoiding blood borne pathogen contamination.

Corporations hate OSHA like vampires hate sunlight in a field of garlic.  Starbucks deserves what it gets when it decided that being all SJW-company was more important than the health and life of its employees.

  1. Typical result of leftist feel good claptrap.

Unfortunately, before the people pushing for any of this inclusive woke BS actually feel any pain from it, they drag the rest of us down with them.

  2. The first employee to get Hep C from a needle stick in a Starbucks bathroom and takes the company to court is going to enjoy an early retirement on the eight figure damages he/she collects.

  3. The people that made the Starbucks policy, and are patting themselves on the back for being so inclusive will never get within a hundred feet of a shit smeared Starbucks restroom with syringes on the floor, much less be required to clean it twice a day.

Just like the rich Progressive Democrat Politicians living in their walled off mansions in their gated communities only deal with their illegal nannies and maids, and the gardening and pool are maintained by illegal immigrants that are vetted and searched at the gate to the neighborhood. They never have to deal with the drug dealer MS-13 gangs that live two blocks over in their neighborhoods.

  4. In all fairness to Starbucks, and I really hate to be fair towards Starbucks I dislike their products, prices and attitudes, there are many places with washrooms, public or private that have to deal with discarded needles/syringes, and smeared/inapropriate placement of feces.

About a month ago I was in a Rural King in Lafayette Indianna and discovered a pile of human excrement next to the Dewalt power tool display. When I reported it the cashier did not bat an eye and called over the PA that there was a “Code Brown” and gave the location in the store. Upon inquiring I was informed that this occurred fairly frequently, obvious upon thinking that it was common if they had a specific code for it.

Rural King, as the name implies is a farming supply store in the middle of Indianna. When this sort of stuff happens there it is happening everywhere. IMHO it is a symptom of overall societal problems that is not restricted to either liberals or conservatives.

As always I could be wrong.

  5. RD beat me to it. If I were an employee, which I would never stoop to, I’d be wearing biohazard gear to clean that stuff up, and be wearing safety gloves.

    1. What sort of gloves protect from needles?
I’m wondering about the notion of needle boxes. Would the people who are so far gone they shoot up in public places know what a needle box is or what it’s for? Even if so, would they have enough brain cells working actually to use it?

      1. I know they make gloves for LEOs that are cut and puncture resistant. They are not cheap disposable but duty gloves so I doubt Starbucks is going to give every worker a new pair of gloves to keep.

        1. Ok. My safety equipment catalog is full of cut resistant gloves. I have some, made of Kevlar. Nice for cleaning up broken glass. $10-ish. There are some very serious ones that are made of chain mail, apparently for use in the meat packing industry. But all those will let a needle through the weave.
          Time to look more closely.
