Batbul is favored to win so rather than suffer the indignity of losing to a Jew fair and square, he’s gonna puss out and then claim it’s some sort of activist performance.

Nourine isn’t the first, and won’t be the last. Plenty of Muslim judokas refuse to compete against Israeli Jewish judokas.
What I don’t understand is, why forfeit the match and be out of the running for any medal? How does it make sense to train your whole life, get good enough at your sport to compete on the world stage, and then throw it away because you don’t like your opponent?
And why hand the person you hate such an easy victory?
I feel like the larger lesson is, this is why so many majority-Muslim nations are still living in the Third World. When your ideology disallows you to trade, collaborate, or compete with Jews and most Christians, you have to figure out all that “civilization” stuff for yourself, with a much shallower pool of expertise from which to draw.
