Set aside for a moment some holes in Rizzo’s argument: tougher gun laws would not have prevented the Douglas High shooting, or most mass shootings; crime has gone down drastically even as the number of guns across America has proliferated; most states already allow faculty to be armed in some fashion, and school shootings remain relatively rare events.

Let’s instead apply the vision the Founding Founders had for America when creating our system: that government policies should be set by elected officials, and not public passion.

….

On this issue, if we want to heed a majority, then consider that the Douglas High commission studied the massacre more closely than anyone else, and voted 13-1 for arming teachers. Reportedly the panel was swayed by the testimony of some Douglas High teachers themselves, who said they wish they’d had a gun that fateful day.

Gov. DeSantis and GOP lawmakers should follow the commission’s recommendation and enact the proposal that would allow teachers who volunteer to be trained to carry guns to do so. The next poll on that will occur in November 2020.

Editorial: Governing by poll is a lousy idea

Wow. This was the Editorial Board of The Florida Times-Union and not of a regular or guest columnist.

The Left with the help of most Media has been crafty enough to parse the arming of teachers not as a volunteer endeavor for a few but a forceful mandate to all. To see one Florida newspaper actually print the truth an supporting it, is quite refreshing.

Allow me to quote again:

Reportedly the panel was swayed by the testimony of some Douglas High teachers themselves, who said they wish they’d had a gun that fateful day.

It is sad that we keep hearing the same sentiment after massacres: People were disarmed and even to their agreement, but once the killing started, they realized they had nothing to stop it and the only thing they could be was victims or witnesses.
The issues Democrats are having is with SB 7030  – School Safety and Security which removes the prohibition against classroom
teachers to serve in the School Guardian program. They made a huge bet on supporting the slogan of “Keeping Guns Out Of Classrooms” and that, by force, had to include banning all teachers from carrying or risk the infamous camel nose under the tent flap.
I do not expect a lot of traction gained here. I doubt we will see the big papers follow the lead of The Florida Times-Union and call for the real hardening of schools. It is just against the Liberal vein and thus it cannot be accepted.

  1. None of this will move forward as long as Coward & Duh counties are ruled by DemonKKKrats in south Florida. They’re are just foaming at the mouth for the next dbag that goes postal @ a school. Freaking vultures.
