Ruger Suspends All New Firearms Orders

Remember the Brady Bunch swearing over a stack of bibles that gun ownership is down and that the Gun Companies did not want to release the truth about it?

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. Reports Strong First Quarter Bookings
March 21, 2012
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announced today that for the first quarter 2012, the Company has received orders for more than one million units. Therefore, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.

Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer made the following comments:

  • The Company’s Retailer Programs that were offered from January 1, 2012 through February 29, 2012 were very successful and generated significant orders from retailers to independent wholesale distributors for Ruger firearms.
  • Year-to-date, the independent wholesale distributors placed orders with the Company for more than one million Ruger firearms.
  • Despite the Company’s continuing successful efforts to increase production rates, the incoming order rate exceeds our capacity to rapidly fulfill these orders. Consequently, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.
  • The Company expects to resume the normal acceptance of orders by the end of May 2012

It is amazing how a group like Brady can be so consistently wrong and yet demand (and get) respect from the Media.

  1. I call BS! Ruger is just stopping all oreders so they can CLAIM that sales are so high that they can’t keep up! It’s a scam to artificially drive up prices and boost long term profits!! Yeah, that’s the ticket!

There, am I qualified to do spin, er, PR, for NGVAC!?

  2. While Green Meanie has an interesting hypothesis, I think what’s really going on is that, since very few people are interested in guns, fewer all the time, someone is building up a huuuuge arsenal for obviously nefarious purposes and that the authorities should look into this.

In the meantime, the streets are flooded with guns. Every Dick, Jane and Miguel is carrying at least one scoped, fully automatic .50 caliber assault derringer, and the authorities should look into this.

    Ummmmmmm, yeah. That’s the ticket.

  3. As an example, last April 14th I called my gun dealer and asked him to order me one of the new SR1911’s, which, if I recall, was in the first few days they began to announce sales.

This Friday my dealer called and told me that sometime next week he was getting two of the half dozen he had ordered, and I was first on the list to receive one.

Barely three weeks shy of a year! Lawsy me!
