Adolphus Busch IV Resigns From NRA.

Adolphus Busch IV, heir to the Busch family brewing fortune, resigned his lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association on Thursday, writing in a letter to NRA President David Keene, “I fail to see how the NRA can disregard the overwhelming will of its members who see background checks as reasonable.”

Another serving of irony so thick, a lightsaber needs to be used for proper slicing.

Volstead Act? Eighteenth Amendment? Prohibition? For somebody whose family business had to endure the excesses of the Government, the idiocy is of a magnitude measured in parsecs.

  1. The hard-won lessons of one generation are usually forgotten within two. Fathers fight their battles…..sons listen to the stories of their fathers, and draw (maybe) some lessons…grandsons listen to the stories of their father’s fathers, and hear just that. Stories. And so it comes around again, that the battles must be re-fought and the lessons re-learned.

  2. REASONABLE background checks are reasonable. What we’ve got already is a bit excessive, and the bill that went down in flames the other day was overreaching and dangerously close to a police state. What I’ve seen of gun culture seems to be in agreement on this.(We only differ in our definition of “reasonable.”)

Ironically, by leaving the NRA, he has done his part to fix the problem. We should all thank him.

And you know what? While we’re at it, you should need to pass a background check to buy a car.

The SAME background check used for firearms. Cars kill more Americans every year than guns do, we should start acknowledging this fact and tailoring our laws to it.
