So I asked a Gun Control Advocate….

… to provide me with the study and statistics about the benefits of Universal Background Checks and she sent me cute pictures with numbers in it. I am guessing she have graduated past crayola in school. One of pictures sent was this one:

HCI poster

Do notice the snarky remark “You won’t like statistics” but that was not what caught my attention.  I know I have seen that pic before, but not recently. And then it hit me:

lastyearhandgunskilled_thumb

This was an ad by no other than Handgun Control Inc. or as we know it since the year 2000, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.  Her alleged “statistic” is at least 14  24 years old, probably more.

May God keep the lot of them this dumb.

Update: I was just reminded by Sam C. that West Germany ceased to be in October of 1990, so this ad is at least 24 years old.

  1. “I won’t like statistics? My, I’m so glad you know what I like and don’t like better than I do. Just give me the statistics.”

I actually looked up and posted the statistics on probability of getting shot by your own gun MYSELF because someone I was arguing with refused to.

  2. The obvious counter to such nonsense is, of course, the number of lawfully owned civilian arms that are used to defend innocent life from murder, rape, and maiming assault every year.

In the US that number is about 2MM.

In those other countries it’s presumably zero.

So all these other countries have effectively done is leave their innocent populations more vulnerable to murder, rape, and maiming assault at the hands of violent criminals. Winning!

Also, it hardly needs saying that lawful killing is a social good. That’s WHY such a thing as lawful killing exists. In EVERY country.

  3. What ARE the stats? I’d love to see some updated data….all the stuff I’m looking at is at least 7 years old.

I’m all for keeping guns out of the hands of violent felons and the mentally ill, btw, but I worry that the only way to get there is through some kind of background check.

  4. And again, only “Gun Death” counts, because they don’t care about safety, they just care about banning guns.

Hence why the Brady Camp changed their name, because their whole org was about banning handguns which will NEVER happen here, so they had to bury that agenda….but they know where it is.

  5. I’m surprised Japan is that high. The Japanese NEVER had the right to own handguns, so I wonder where they get them.

We know the Brits fudged their numbers to improve their stats.

And again, guns are just tools. The numbers that matter the most to me are total homicide rate. Compared to most of the western world, our rates are low. A dozen cities (e.g. NY, LA, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans) carry something like 80% of our homicides. The No. 1 statistical murderer of Americans is a region with a high population density and high unemployment.

  6. I recall an anti-gun troll once told Larry Corriea that he didn’t understand statistics. Y’know, Larry Corriea the certified public accountant.

  7. That pic makes some false and non-parralel comparisons. The population of the US is far larger than any of those nations. It implies that all gun deaths in the US are murders, which is likely the case in most of those other nations. And, it misses the irony that Switzerland requires homes to have guns in them. Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Never changes.
