Democratic socialism surging in the age of Trump

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A week ago, Maine Democrat Zak Ringelstein wasn’t quite ready to consider himself a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, even if he appreciated the organization’s values and endorsement in his bid to become a U.S. senator.

Three days later, he told The Associated Press it was time to join up. He’s now the only major-party Senate candidate in the nation to be a dues-paying democratic socialist.

That’s the only good news

Ringelstein’s leap is the latest evidence of a nationwide surge in the strength and popularity of an organization that, until recently, operated on the fringes of the liberal movement’s farthest left flank. As Donald Trump’s presidency stretches into its second year, democratic socialism has become a significant force in Democratic politics. Its rise comes as Democrats debate whether moving too far left will turn off voters.

In the age of Trump, the Left has decided that the only counter is to go full USSR?  It’s almost like they want more Trump.

“I stand with the democratic socialists, and I have decided to become a dues-paying member,” Ringelstein told AP. “It’s time to do what’s right, even if it’s not easy.”

Well, it’s not right.  Socialism is evil.  There is no other word for it than that.  It turns hard work and thinking into a liability and lazy greed into an asset.  It’s also not that hard to get elected as a socialist by a lazy and greedy peer group.  Just promise them free stuff.  The hard part is keeping that going once the economy has been cannibalized.  No socialist society has ever survived that.

There are 42 people running for offices at the federal, state and local levels this year with the formal endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America, the organization says. They span 20 states, including Florida, Hawaii, Kansas and Michigan.

“I want free shit” is an increasingly powerful message as lazy snowflakes return home with their bullshit degrees.

The most ambitious Democrats in Washington have been reluctant to embrace the label, even as they embrace the policies defining modern-day democratic socialism: Medicare for all, a $15 minimum wage, free college tuition and the abolition of the federal department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE.

So the choice is “how fast do you want to destroy America?”

Last week, its paid membership hit 45,000 nationwide.

Ohhh… a target rich environment.

There is little distinction made between the terms “democratic socialism” and “socialism” in the group’s literature. While Ringelstein and other DSA-backed candidates promote a “big-tent” philosophy, the group’s constitution describes its members as socialists who “reject an economic order based on private profit” and “share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.”

You can make is sound as nice as you want, it still ends up with firing squads and death camps.  See I won’t let you tell me what to invent, or how to innovate.  You won’t control my life.  when I don’t listen to a bunch off gender studied majors play armchair engineer, what are you going to do?

Members during public meetings often refer to each other “comrades,” wear clothing featuring socialist symbols like the rose and promote authors such as Karl Marx.

Going full Soviet is a good look.

Most support the push to abolish ICE, which enforces immigration laws and led the Trump administration’s recent push to separate immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border.

And will let the cartels, drug dealers, human traffickers, and all sorts of other criminals and human detritus enter our nation unchecked.

Near the end of the two-hour gathering, Ringelstein thanked the group for “standing shoulder to shoulder with us throughout this entire campaign.”

“We could win a U.S. Senate seat!” he said. “I want to say that over and over. We could win a U.S. Senate seat! So, let’s do this.”

I doubt it.  But go ahead and try.  Better yet, try and win a majority in the Congress and enact your policies.

I said it before and I’ll say it again.  The next time someone starts a Socialist revolution, we put the socialists in the mass graves first, before they have a chance to do it to us.

  1. There are an estimated 60,000 people nationwide who take part in Society for Creative Anachronism pseudo-medieval reenactment. In 1998, 35,000 people took the field to reenact Gettysburg, with 50,000 spectators.

Sure, there are idiots who support socialism. But in the US we can field volunteer armies armed with swords or flintlocks that outnumber them.

  2. “A week ago, Maine Democrat Zak Ringelstein wasn’t quite ready to consider himself a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, even if he appreciated the organization’s values and endorsement in his bid to become a U.S. senator.

    Three days later,….”

It only took 3 days to get this vapid fool to go full Commie?

  3. It’s not the children who scream “I want free stuff” that worry me.

It’s the grown adults who scream “I demand and deserve free stuff” that worry me; they should know better, they vote, and their petulant temper tantrums are a lot more destructive.

    1. But then again, they were probably “educated” by school systems whose clear goals are to infantilize the students and indoctrinate them with socialist propaganda. It’s not surprising it sticks with many people; the good thing is that a lot manage to escape relatively unharmed.

  4. Relevant quote from a Tumblr post: “Socialism is the Axe body spray of political ideologies.
It never does what it claims to do but people too young to know better keep buying it anyway.”

  5. This socialist “surge” is like the blue wave- a fart in a bathtub… people here in Maine are tired of these Portlandites thinking everyone is just like them.
